    FIORENTINA FANZONE

Yes, it's that time again for your monthly update on all things purple, Fiorentina Fanzone!
I bet you can't wait to hear what's going on with your favourite club.

To be honest it's been a shite month on the pitch for the side, with results going from draws to defeats and the side sliding down the table. Europe continues to be the only bright spark, with the side unbeaten with two wins and two draws, and might even seal qualification to the knock out stage tonight.

Squad wise, it's been another month of changes, with players coming and going quicker than Andy's skiddy underpants.
The squad is the strongest is has ever been currently, with Eder Militao back from his travels, and Guirassey the main man up front.
Diaz was sacrificed for the good of the squad as a whole, and enabled the side to send loaner Lepenant back to his club.
Quite what is going wrong on the pitch remains a mystery, but the boss man has promised tactical, formation and personnel changes to continue until things go right. This week sees Szoboszlai leave the club for cash, bringing wages down in time to payday, and giving the side some money to have a pop at the weekly auctions, though the chance of picking anyone up seems remote, so the money will probably end up being used elsewhere.

So let's recap on all those terrible results we've had in August!

    Week 10

    Fiorentina 2-2 PSG

'Dirty PSG nearly pay the price'
It what was seen as a bonus point, PSG gave Fiorentina a huge helping hand with the sending's off of Arnold and Rice, perhaps both still gutted from England's Euro exit.
The game started as predicted with C V P or A from PSG, and it was only 11 v 9 men that made the match an even game, such is the strength of the PSG side. Fiorentina scored first through the unsettled Diaz, and it looked like being an embarrassing result when PSG scored twice to lead. However up stepped defender Sule with the last minute goal to win the deserved point.

Positives - A point! Palacios has his best game to date, taking man of the match, Diaz hits his 11th
Downsides - Not making full advantage of the extra men, booking for Diaz

    Week 11

    Dortmund 1-0 Fiorentina

Another poor result for the purples, and we can't even say we didn't deserve it.
We had the counter, but it didn't seem to help much, and Dortmund went ahead around half time, and despite changing things around we couldn't find a way back into the game. gg dude

Positives - Marmardvili stopped it being worse than it was
Negatives - Poor performance, couple of bookings

Make or break game versus Lisbon next, big changes will be made if the poor run continues

    Week 12

    Fiorentina 1-1 Lisbon

Another day, another draw for Fiorentina, who have now drawn 7 of their 12 league matches this season.
This was a game we felt we should have won, but it so nearly could have been one we lost.
Tactically, and team strength were on our side, but as so happens the opposition score first, and things change.
It looked like it was heading for a disastrous loss, but Boadu finally came good with the equaliser after 77 minutes.
Stats wise it looked like we were well on top, but didn't make the most of it, gg Jason

It's been a busy week for transfers, so hopefully the changes might bring a change of luck

    Week 13

    Athletico 2-1 Fiorentina

A well deserved win for the home side, who came well prepared for the cautious Fiorentina. gg Simon
Si was generous in his comments, but this was quite a one sided game and a poor one for the purples.
We had quite a few new faces, and did well on the tackling side, but didn't create a great deal.
Those league wins are proving very hard to come by, and we are slipping down the table into the inevitable relegation fight.

Positives - Pino scored on his debut, good games for Botman and Cresswell on theirs too.
Downsides - Poor performance overall, and created little.

    Week 14

    Fiorentina 2-3 Bayern

Daylight robbery! The purples played well, but lost!
More possession, more shots, less of the winning part.
Boadu had a good game, scoring, along with Suso, but it was not meant to be.
I believe the referee was bribed, as he denied a clear last minute penalty, and if the powers that be want to fine me for saying that, then so be it! He's a cheat!

    Week 15

    Leverkusen 1-4 Fiorentina

So, it is possible to win again! Lightning does strike twice, etc. etc.
It's been a long time coming, bar some decent Euro performances, and very nice to finally get some more points.
I hope this isn't the nail in the coffin for Neil, as he's doing a decent job rebuilding Leverkusen.

We were a bit more adventurous than usual, and it came off, with Coutinho having a great game, with a couple of goals, it was nice to see Boadu have a decent game, and uprate too. We had some good possession, but looking at the shot count, we were fortunate to be a bit more clinical than them on the day.

Typically however, we have just swapped out 3 players, and two of them had good games, though Palacios will miss his final game with us through suspension.

We keep slightly ahead of the danger zone, it would be nice to win again on Friday against Napoli to put a little bit more daylight below us though.

    Week 16

    Fiorentina 1-3 Napoli

Another shocker from the home side, though the result doesn't perhaps tell the whole story.
With home and tactical advantage things looked good, and Fiorentina had the slight edge on the stats, so what went wrong?
Fuck knows! Other than Marmardvili having a dodgy game it's hard to say.
Fiorentina drop to their lowest position of the season, just above the relegation place.
The good news is that Fiorentina strengthened their side again, but will it be enough to turn things around? probably not.

    Week 17

    Lazio 2-1 Fiorentina

Oh dear, we lost again. This time against a fellow struggler, so what is going wrong?
Well based on the performance we should have won, so maybe we can blame the keeper? who knows
Both sides started C, and the stats ended up as follows -
58% possession, and more than twice as many shots on target but no, not even a draw.
Things are now looking dire on the pitch, but the side continues to improve on stats, so maybe it will come good.
The blame appears to have been pointed at Szlobozlai for now, who has been sold for cash this week.
We will see if things improve against fellow promoted side Sevilla next.

    DBC CUP

    Game 3

    Fiorentina 4-0 Bristol City

Why can't we play like this in the league?
We decided to say feck it, and play A, given City often play E, and it was an open game, with them switching to A as well.
There were many chances, and Coutinho was on fire, scoring all 4 goals for Fiorentina!
The score line was quite harsh, given City created chances too, but we will take it, ul dude.
Doing well in the DBC, hopefully we can wrap up the next round soon so we can play some squaddies.

    Game 4

    Bristol City 0-0 Fiorentina

Nothing to see here, move along..
Ok, it was a decent draw on the road, in a long list of draws this season, and one which makes progression to the knock outs much more likely. City countered, and it was a fairly even game. We took a chance on playing our young lad, who did well enough.

Positives - 4 points ahead of 3rd with 2 games to go, good games for Shaw, De Vrij and Marmadvili, minutes for our teenager.
Downsides - Booking for Palacios, not exactly an abs fest.

    DBC Cup round 5
    Fiorentina 3-1 Watford

Can we play in Europe every game? was the cry from the home fans, who are starved of wins in the league.
The game was notable mainly for Boadu getting man of the match for 6 minutes work, not bad!
Boadu scored twice in the first 5 minutes, to trigger a couple of subs for squad players to get minutes, so off he went.
It was a more even game after that, with Lasme adding a third, and Under scoring for the visitors.
It was a decent performance, with several chances created and the boss was happy to progress to the next round. ul dude

Positives - Good minutes for Zeze, Lasme, Helik and Suso, Boadu on fire for 5 minutes, progression to knock outs
Downsides - Guirassey getting sent off

    Week 18

    Fiorentina 1-2 Sevilla

The purple ones just can't seem to get results in the league at the moment, and this was another case of what could have been.
Better side - check, Right tactics - check, More shots - check, More possession - check, more goals - no, win - no!
The penalty was perhaps the deciding factor, but even so, it was another frustrating night for the Fiorentina fans.
The main positive was Militao who had a great game at the back, and to add to the downsides, Boadu got himself sent off late in the game, with frustration setting in.
Quite where we go from here, I'm not sure, with a tricky game against Juventus next, down probably.
There have been more changes in personnel, with the hope big multi talented signing Sanches can be the catalyst of a turnaround.
