Juventus land J_Lepenant as Moscardo replacement
News out of Paris & Turin is that an agreement has been made between PSG & Juventus over the services of defensive midfielder J_Lepenant.
Lepenant who is on loan at Premier League team, Cardiff City, has bounced around from club to club ever since he was snapped up by Simon Clark's PSG team and has finally been deemed not good enough for the squad.
Clarke and PSG placed the 21 year old onto the transfer market, with offers coming in from the likes of Chelsea, FC Barcelona & Fiorentina but it seemed like Juventus were the team to beat in terms of a bid with them outbidding the chasing pack time and time again.
PSG released a statement that they would instantly accept a bid in the region of £115,000,000 for Lepenant and Juventus triggered this release clause, sealing a deal which will take place at the end of the current season.
Could Lepenant be a cheaper replacement for G_Moscardo, the 19 year old that was robbed from Juventus by the pathetic FFO FA? Many have suggested this.
Almost instantly after the pre deal contract was signed, rumblings around Turin, and indeed Paris started the same day that the release clause was met.
Juventus fans wondering what Banks had up his sleeve, what were his plans for the Frenchman.
And in Paris, even the PSG manager questioned what Juventus would want with Lepenant as they already had 2 better defensive midfielders in E_Camavinga & N_Gonzalez in their ranks as he questioned the validity of the offer made by Juventus.
Clarke even went as far as to attempt to do the deal before the end of the season, with the clause that Juventus would have to honour the loan deal that PSG have with Cardiff City for the rest of the campaign, but Juventus manager Andy Banks rejected this idea instantly and so the deal will have to wait until the end of the season.
We spoke to Juventus manager Andy Banks in regards to the transfer in question and his plans for Lepenant:
"Lepenant is a player that we've admired for some time now and the time has come for PSG to move on from him it seems as he's been transfer listed after seasons of loan moves.
We noticed he was up for sale and we started bidding, Chelsea were our main competitors but we felt like we needed to see them off and once the release clause was revealed we knew we had to meet it.
Players like Lepenant are a rare thing and while he's not thought to be on the same level as the defensive midfielders that we have at the club already in Camavinga & Gonzalez he will 100% be a big part in our upcoming season one way or another.
An option that is available to us is to add him to another player in exchange for a star player, in a 2 for 1 deal which will see us improve overall.
Another is to use him as more of a rotation player and to use him to see out games in which we're leading.
We will obviously make that decision when the time is right but for now, we're delighted to have pushed this deal over the line.
Having said this, the last defensive midfielder that we signed now plays for Manchester United so I'm not sure what'll happen next."
