  • Banks responds to criticism as Juventus land £85,000,000 profit in just 7 weeks

    Last week saw the transfer market be thrown into chaos as a deal was struck between Juventus & FC Barcelona which would see on loan player, S_Vos leave his loan with Millwall prematurely and join the Spanish giants.

    The 19 year old Dutch international who is seen as a hybrid player who can play in defence AND midfield was due to not only spend this season with Gary Windebank and Championship team Millwall, but likely next season as well with the potential for a further loan spell in the nations capital.

    Vos, the player in question, joined Juventus from the NON FFO auction just over 7 weeks ago for a small fee of £30,600,000 after the Italian team had missed out on defender M_Guehi in the first round of said auction and after a few parties were interested in the teenager, Millwall were given the opportunity to develop the youth player however just weeks into the season FC Barcelona and manager Sam Bradwell came calling after an off the cuff remark from Banks regarding the availability and price for S_Vos and after a bid was tabled, Banks reached out to Millwall manager Gary Windebank to give him the heads up of a potential loan recall.

    The deal took the better part of a week to finalise but after blood, sweat and tears the two clubs landed on a price of £115,000,000. Almost 4 times the fee that Juventus paid and just under an £85,000,000 profit for the EFL 1 club.

    In the days that followed, Millwall manager Gary Windebank released a statement to the press criticising Banks for his actions all while agreeing it was the right thing to do.

    Banks offered to make things right by signing a new player to loan to Millwall but reports coming in say that Winderbank snubbed Banks.

    Other managers such as PSG manager Simon Clarke involved themselves, claiming that he had the opportunity to do such a thing but respected the loan deal he had agreed with Fiorentina.

    With all of the deals involved now agreed and official, we spoke to Juventus manager Andy Banks to gain his side of this saga;

    “First of all, it was with deep regret that we had to recall Vos earlier than intended but when someone like Sam Bradwell offers you 4 times what you paid last month then it's an offer you have to take seriously.

    Vos was always going to be a player who we loaned out to develop and then cash in on and the figure in mind for him was always £100,000,000 but in 2-3 seasons time.

    The fact that, in THIS market, we were able to get £15,000,000 more than that and 12-18 months before we had planned is huge for us and gives us a real platform to build on…perhaps by signing another youth player to replace him with.

    When we were deciding where we should send him to be developed, two clubs stood out as real contenders to us. Millwall and Stockport County and we eventually went with Millwall but having seen how Millwall have started compared to Stockport, perhaps we made the wrong decision as it's not only been the Millwall results that have been poor but Vos’ too as he's been Millwall's worst player. Perhaps Bridge would have got him playing better?

    We now move on, take the criticism and look forwards to the next player that we can sign, all with a lot more money in our pockets than we started with.

    We wish Vos the best of luck in Barcelona or wherever he's been sold
