    Wolves Transfer News

After the departure of Alex Mowatt to Everton last week it meant that Wolverhampton Wanderers were a player short in their squad as we start to approach the new season. This was a situation that required to be rectified as soon as possible to ensure any new player would have ample preseason time to bed into the squad before the first game kicked off. Wolves did have the back stop of the leagues Buy Him Now sale of players to fall back on, but the club are pleased to announce the immediate signing of 25 year old Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush from Jason Hopton’s Eintracht Frankfurt outfit for a fee of £10 million. The deal is reported to have been signed and sealed between both the clubs and the players representatives with no last minute hitches in sight.

In other news, the two young players that the club’s academy scouts have been tracking have now put pen to paper and have both signed the standard minimum three year youth contract with possible future contract extensions. The players concerned are 17 year old Italian defender Paulo Maldini, and to complete the more defensive minded scouting effort this preseason, 17 year old French defensive midfielder Patrick Vieira. Both join the Wolves youth academy on the back of some impressive youth team performances and with our new coach and scouting team firmly in place now, the club have high hopes for all of our youth players as we go into the future.

The gold and black have been very quiet on the transfer market during the course of early season. But that changed as they announced that they had signed 22 year old Brazilian striker Joao Pedro from Sheffield Wednesday in a deal that saw 24 year old fan favourite and fellow Brazilian Gabriel Veron go in the opposite direction. Neither player has lit up the goal charts in their respective divisions as yet, so it’s hoped by both teams that this change of scenery and playing styles will ignite both players as we move into the middle third of the season.

Wolves manager Ray Wallace said of the deal “I think this will be a great deal for both teams and players going forward. Gabriel has been with us a fair few seasons now and has performed excellently throughout his time here getting us promoted to the Prem and helping us stay there for a season. I think he definitely deserves to play at that level, so he goes back up there with our best wishes and with the rapport he had with the fans at Molineux I know he will have a number of our supporters cheering him on wherever he goes. Joao Pedro is very much an improving player and has played regularly in the top flight in both Prem and EFL1 and never looked out of place, he seems to soak up the experiences and knowledge around him so I’ve no doubt he will prove to be a great asset to this club going forward. But at this stage I think this drop into the Championship will benefit him and give him the chance to reset his career. I’m certainly looking forward to working with him on the training ground and seeing how he integrates with the Championship’s current top scorer Nicolas Jackson.”

This deal follows hot on the heels of the more low key transfer of 22 year old German all round midfielder Jonas Sterner to Luton Town in exchange for 22 year old Spanish attacking midfielder Gabri Veiga.

Wolves senior coach Rafael Baptista welcomed the deal saying “We picked up Jonas as a free agent and he has come on well in his time with us and deserves his chance at Luton and good luck to him. Gabri is a very different player to Jonas and is more of what we need to give us cover for injuries and suspensions with his more attack minded play. He has certainly been around the houses a bit in his short career so far, but we are hoping he will grow roots here and enjoy his football with us.”

And in a strange twist we have life imitating art. There are rumours that real life Wolves are floating a bid to sign goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal. Obviously the powers that be at Molineux were so impressed at FFO Ramsdale’s play for Wolves they decided to try to copy Ray Wallace’s blueprint and make it a reality.
