Early last week, news broke out of the Juventus camp that after a successful auction bid, Juventus would use their auction signing to lure away A_Davies from struggling Bayern Munich.
In addition to this, the Italian club sold surplus defender T_Nianzou to EPL team Southampton for £110,000,000 much to some people's surprise given that they'd only recently signed him for £175,000,000.
In a rare week for Juventus where they actually used the transfer market, they weren't done yet as they looked to use the added funds they'd received in said deals to improve their squad further. Their next target was an improvement on out of favour attacking midfielder D_Kulusevski.
Kulusevski was a clear second choice at Juventus behind 21 year old F_Wirtz and Banks was key to bring in a player who would rival the young German for that spot....Up stepped E_Smith_Rowe.
Recently signed from PSG for a whopping £220,000,000, the Roma winger knew he'd not be in Rome for long and that was indeed the case as manager Derek Hughes quickly looked to invite offers for the 22 year old.
Offers come in from high and low with Manchester United & Juventus quickly becoming the front runners to land the signature of the Englishman but after a LOT of back and forth by the Roma manager, a deal was agreed.
A fee of D_Kulusevski AND £129,475,000 was paid to Roma in exchange for Smith_Rowe, a fee which some have raised eyebrows at while other clubs were left scratching their heads after being told that the winger wasn't for sale only to see ESR sign on the dotted line in Turin.
Here to explain the deal and the fall out afterwards, Juventus manager Andy Banks:
"We're delighted to welcome Smith_Rowe to our squad alongside new recruit A_Davies, those two players will add a lot of quality and class to our team and are two players who we've tried and failed to sign multiple times in the past so to get the deals done to bring them here is a big achievement for us.
As for the big fee we paid for ESR, well we got A_Davies on the cheap all things considered so it's all swings and roundabouts. We wish D_Kulusevski all the best at whichever club Roma have sold him to and I'm sure he'll be a top top player for them but we've finally been able to plug a hole in our squad that's needed filling for some time.
As for the fallout after the deal was agreed from the other club bidding for his services, I'd react the same way if we were bidding on a player, were told he wasn't for sale, and then the next thing yu know he's been sold off under our noses.
For me, that's poor business from the Roma manager.
We're now set for the remainder of the season, with some huge games on the horizon and plenty of funds to improve anywhere else we can do."
