Just when we thought the transfers at Celtic park were settling down Bradwell has once again activated the revolving door and spun it into overdrive with 6 changes to the side this week and another 2 more next week, fans have been given the opportunity to have their Celtic shirts reprinted this week free of charge, the club isn’t too worried about the cost of this according to reports as the majority of shirts bought in the past 2 weeks have had Hojlund 9 printed on them and the Dane for now remains a Celtic player and therefore the majority of shirts wont need to be reprinted, however it has still caused frustration amongst fans and pundits with Bradwell struggling to retain a side and therefore the squad isn’t settling, Bradwell has made promises about keeping certain players once signed but many have left in a matter of weeks and sometimes days after, we caught up with Bradwell who said;
“Yes it does feel like a revolving door at the moment, its been an up and down start to the season and its only recently ive figured out a way of setting up that can give us the best possible chance of having a successful season, I don’t believe in the wait and see approach, if its not working then we have to change it, if we had waited I think we would of got to the middle of the season and been hovering around 14th, I think the changes we have made this week will give us a chance at being in and around the top 10 come the end of the season.”
In terms of player quality it’s a difficult one on who the biggest signing arriving is, social media suggests its between defensive midfielder Zambo Anguissa and full back Ben White, interestingly White was signed during the bonanza by Celtic and was then passed around 3 different clubs before settling in at Barcelona, White will now line up in the green and white hoops of Celtic, which many expected to be the case at the start of the season, Anguissa is in the world class category of defensive midfielders and this will be one the Celtic fans will be looking forward to as they’ve added someone who will provide some much needed strength and defensive quality to the midfield, Bradwell highlighted;
“Ben is someone who we were keen to have in the side at the start of the season but we were offered a big profit on our original purchase price of him and therefore it was a no brainer for the club financially to let him go, so when the opportunity arose to bring him back we were pleased to make that happen, Diego Llorente another one we have been keen to sign and Zambos quality speaks for itself he will be straight in the number 4 slot, we have made key changes defensively but the hope is also the attacking changes we have made will put us in good stead to try and increase our shot to goal ratio which is reportedly one of the worst in the league”
The bulk of the changes Celtic have made are at the back or in defensive positions, further down the pitch Youri Tielemans who is expected to arrive next week in a deal that will see Nathan Tella leave is one change and then this week we are expecting the arrival of Cody Gakpo from wolves in a swap for Nicolas Jackson, Jackson and Tella after arriving in FFO this off season have both struggled to nail down first team spots and it was seen as an opportunity by Bradwell to lock in some depth for the Bhoys as Martin Terrier will also join as part of the deal, this is also expected to be next week with Tielemans, rumours of Boubacar Kamara leaving the club have quietened Kamara is the teams leading chance creator and although Bradwell was after a similar player to add to Anguissa on the midfield defensive side of things, Celtics number 6 now looks set to stay.
No one ever seems to be safe when arriving at Celtic and with the market being generally quiet many are surprised Celtic have managed to make so many deals, so many deals that’s meant due to league rules Tielemans and Terrier cant arrive until next week, mass changes on the same scale now seem unlikely in the near future for Celtic with Bradwell explaining to the board that he plans to next re evaluate his stance come mid season depending on the next 10 league games and the sides progression in the DB Cup group stages.
