News circulating the media today saying County had signed Karim Benzema on a short term deal from Sociedad were in fact true.

The complex deal meant Daka leaving Edgeley park and with Benzema, the return of defensive midfielder Downes.

The two for one was too good to turn down for the Championship outfit and for a brief time they're hoping Benzema can power them up the table.

"We were initially looking for a defensive mid to fill the void, luckily Downes has apologised to the team when he signed back with us, as he's still in the whatsapp group. Benzema hasn't mixed with the guys yet but he'll be in training after the game on Friday."

"The veteran striker will leave either mid season or just before the window shuts, due to his wish to retire EOS. We will need to make sure the club can re coup some value back from him this season. But in the meantime we want goals from him and lots of them!"

It was all a hoax!

After seemingly signing the veteran Benzema in what looked like a major transfer coup, Mike Bridge broke away from training to confirm that the Benzema signing was all smoke and mirrors and that they had actually signed Ivan Toney instead.

”We wanted to play a trick on the media and it worked! We’ve been dealing directly with Real Sociadad directly and wanted to get a deal done for a top striker. Daka hasn’t done it for us up to now and Toney will be the guy to fire us up the table!”

Bridge went on to say that if a deal for Benzema did materialise, that it would have only been a very short term deal, meaning it didn’t really make sense to go for it!
