  • Travers signing hits the Mark

Drew Hill makes first transfer move

The first signing of the Drew Hill era at Stade Rennais has been confirmed.
Young Irish goalkeeper Mark Travers was unveiled in France this afternoon after moving from Italian giants Inter Milan.

Shake on that: Mark Travers becomes Drew Hill's first signing

The former Bournemouth keeper is perhaps not an arrival likely to excite the fanbase of the Breton club.
However, the Irish international stopper, whose first team chances at the San Siro have been limited, does potentially provide a long term solution to a problem area for the French club.

New Home: Travers will hope for more first team opportunities in France

Stade Rennais manager Drew Hill had no doubts over the quality of the signing, although he did hint that he may still have to wait for first team opportunities.

"I am very happy to welcome Mark to the club.
The goalkeeping department was one I was keen to strengthen since I arrived here.
I want to build for the long term and to do that we need players like him in the squad.
Young goalkeepers with any level of potential are hard to come by so I am happy to sign the lad.
I still haven't finalised my plans for him and he may have to wait his chance to play for the first team but I would expect him to be pushing to be our number 1 in the not too distant future"
The arrival of Travers signalled the end of Gauthier Gallon's Rennes career, he moved to Inter Milan to fill the empty spot on the bench in the San Siro.
There will also now be doubts over the long term future of Geoffrey Lembet. A host of clubs are thought to be interested in a deal for the veteran goalkeeper should he end up pushed out of the starting line up by Travers.
