Boniface has left Atletico Madrid in a £160m cash deal. The figure appears to be low when compared to equivalent recent striker sales and it looks like Southampton have stolen themselves a pretty player at a pretty sum of money. Atletico themselves had signed Ruani in the recent auction.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "We know the price is low, but there is not a lot of cash around since the end of the auction and we took what was available. We ourselves profited from a great auction price, so effectively Southampton are prospering from our fortune. We did not want three strikers for the season because we do not like to play our football that way and there would have been a significant minutes and development issue so we accepted that moving forwards we have to take swift action whilst there was a side out there with the need for a great young striker. The deal is done and we cannot look back now".
