FEDERICO VALVERDE, United signed the Uruguayan from the auction in Season 1.
It brings euphoria, passion, stress and general upsets but the auction is the calendars hottest period for the majority of FFO, but as a new era dawns and regulations change it looks like this could be a more subdued time for some as the financial forecasts have more clubs operating in the red over the next few seasons. It does mean the auction could easily see more bargains than normal with numerous clubs reserved in their approach.
That will apparently be the case for Manchester United as Steve Outten has claimed United intent to take part, but only on a smaller scale with there being fewer fiscal restrictions this season. United already have 23 players and do not necessarily require further arrivals. There was talk of Anthony Elanga making way this off season but a deal wasn't struck, and last seasons 3rd top scorer stayed at the club. Otherwise with the auction looming, it does look like a typically subdued window for the club on the whole.
Outten spoke at the unveiling of Mason Mount about the forthcoming approaches.
"We've brought in a more creative 10 than what we had before so we now feel happy enough with our structure and set up. Mason wont be required to defend he's there to use his attacking traits to benefit the usual front lads. Add to that we have Anthony (Elanga) who's been a fantastic player to have with goals and wing play so we're not looking at changing much. But when it's auction season we try and get involved...... When we're allowed to.
"I can see us having a bit of a go, but with the way the land lies we'll likely be more subdued in whatever approach we take. There will be some interesting players for sure and one or two will interest, so we'll have a look and decide whats what and whose who, and for sure, if we get our man then great, otherwise we're certainly more than happy with what we have because I feel we have a great balance and dynamic of the squad.
"It's going to be a big year and we may need as much depth as possible though to challenge for the title."
Asked what area United may be looking at, Outten responded:
"It all comes down to, which area offers the best value for what we're prepared to spend."
'How much are you looking to spend'
Outten "...Whatever we feel will be enough without spending too much, we''ll decide once know who is available."
