The news coming out of Italy today is that late last night, defensive midfielder Y_Adli has departed Juventus after 3 seasons with the club.
The 22 year old, French international, leaves the club for a huge fee of £200,000,000 which was paid by none other than Celtic.
Adli joined the club from AS Roma 3 seasons ago, but since the arrivals of E_Camavinga & N_Gonzalez in recent seasons, Adli has been pushed down the pecking order and spent over 60% of last season on the bench for Juventus.
Juventus were said to be happy to keep the young, versatile player however after some number crunching regarding minimum play time requirements, further options were looked at and after offers from West Ham United, Burnley & Bayern Munich were all turned down, it was Celtic who eventually got themselves a deal.
Juventus manager Andy Banks had the following to say on the departure of Adli, the fee that he fetched and his plans on what to do with said fee:
"Yacine has been a great player for us. He came to the club 3 seasons ago and was one of our best players, however in time, we've signed other players who have made it impossible to fit him into a starting line up and therefore he spent the majority of last season as a substitute and came on late on in games.
We were happy to do the same this upcoming campaign however, it would be detrimental to himself AND to the players he'd be replacing as he'd need a lot of playing time to meet his contract so once we realised this we placed him on the transfer market and within hours we had the offers rolling in.
We were approached by Celtic and asked what an acceptable fee was and we told them. £200,000,000.
After some back and forth, Celtic who had just sold their best defensive midfielder caved and stumped up the cash.
We're delighted with the fee as for once I feel like we've got a deal worth more than the players' worth.
Adli will go on to do great things in this game......Once he's sold from Celtic.
Now we have a lot of cash in our pockets, the next question is what we do with it. We will take some time to think now, but we don't actually NEED to sign anyone so if we have to sit on it then so be it."
