  • Liverpool reject approach for Bentancur

Under pressure Liverpool manager Graeme Edwards confirmed after tonight's last gasp defeat at the hands of Arsenal at Emirates Stadium that the club had earlier rejected an offer from a high profile EFL club for the services of Uruguayan defensive midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.

The 28 year old arrived at Anfield during the pre season bonanza for a significant sum of money believed to be in the region of £95m and at that time was hailed by Edwards as a game changing addition to the squad. However a few weeks later it is safe to say that Bentancur, like the Liverpool team in general, is struggling to find a consistency of performance.

Despite both the player's and the team's struggles Edwards confrmed that he quickly rejected the approach for the player

"Yes we received a bid for Rodrigo and it's safe to say that it was from one of the most illustrious clubs in European football. However it was very swiftly rejected as we have absolutely no interest in losing the player either now or in the near future. We see him as a player that can have a successful career here and whilst we recognise that we are still trying to find a way to get the very best out of him it is still far too early in his time here to start writing him off. We are confident that both his and the team's performances will improve and that as a group we will turn around the poor run of form that we have been on"

Edwards also confirmed that an offer for French youngster Halifa had been turned down and that the club have no immediate interest in looking to the transfer market as a solution for trying to solve the recent down turn in results - hard work and perseverance being the answer according to the Scot.
