Fool me once shame on you , fool me twice shame on me
The news breaking out of Italy today is regarding the Ansu Fati saga between Arsenal, Juventus and now PSG.
It has been well publicised that Juventus & Arsenal had previously reached an agreement regarding the sale of Fati to Juventus however shortly after Arsenal & Juventus took to their social media pages to announce the deal, Arsenal pulled the plug just 7 minutes after making things official. (We’re told 7 minutes is a record for the Arsenal manager)
Since that fateful evening where Arsenal had the chance to finish top of the Premier League but managed to fall down to 4th, Fati was listed for sale once again and again Juventus made an offer that was immediately accepted by the London based club.
Fast forward to this week where the transfer bonanza has been opened and despite a deal being agreed between the two clubs, PSG were the team to land the in demand striker while Juventus were left with egg on their face as it seems Darren ‘The deal is off’ Humphries has once again shown his true colours and stabbed Banks & Juventus in the back.
Here to discuss the matter, Juventus head coach Andy Banks:
“It’s very disappointing, to just read the news that a player we’d assumed would be joining us has gone elsewhere. The whole dressing room will need to be changed as we’d already swapped out Gimenez’s place for Ansu but to say I’m surprised would be an exaggeration.
The Arsenal manager has done this before in the past and in this pre season.
We had a deal agreed and then his feelings were hurt, the toys came out of the pram and the deal was cancelled from their end.
We moved on and when we saw him available again we tried to secure him again and the bid was accepted but I always feared that this might happen, especially when we had cancelled a deal with Humpries’ new line dancing buddy Simon Clarke. I could sense that something was off but I was willing to see what happened but one thing I did insist upon was that Arsenal were the ones to send the paperwork off to the FA and then when they’d checked that everything was in order we would sign them to seal the deal.
We then had weeks of pressure from Arsenal over the deal, asking if the bid was serious almost every week which turned into borderline harassment but in the end Arsenal failed to send the paperwork to begin the process of completing the deal and then they’ve gone and sold Fati to PSG.
I saw it all coming, at the managers conference earlier in the month I could clearly hear the Arsenal manager speaking to Manchester United manager Steven Outten regarding Fati in the attempt to leverage himself a better deal and then I heard PSG manager Simon Clark loudly make offers towards Humphries with the Arsenal manager being clearly heard to have said something along the lines of ‘Send us an email over for us to look at.’
So it seems to me like PSG/Manchester United were attempting to scupper the deal and once Arsenal had the deal they wanted from PSG, we were cast aside just like before.
Humphries will no doubt claim it was out wrong doing however, we left things with their manager in a very simple way. Send off the paperwork and we can complete the deals but they were never sent.
