It’s been bit of an iffy month for Luton in the league, with several defeats intermixed with a few wins. The side looks better on paper, much younger than initially, but the defence is still poor, and despite having a very good forward line, it’s not enough to get the wins. Jovic has been a big signing up front, but so far he has failed to deliver, and may even find himself out the door this week.
Week 19
Luton 4-2 Millwall
What an exciting game for the home fans, as they continue to enjoy a winning and scoring streak.
Millwall tried the counter, but couldn't handle Darwin Nunez's pace as he scored three times in the first half. Typical now he's been sold!
The three nil lead didn't last long and Millwall came back into the game well, brining it to 3-2 before the decisive fourth goal from Awoniyi. Based on the stats it was a much closer game, but Luton were clinical on the day. Ul Gary.
So at halfway Luton sit in third, a great performance from a side I expected to be down the bottom.
Bradley and Eising had good games at the back as well as Nunez being the star up front.
Week 20
Ipswich 2-2 Luton
A decent point on the road for Luton, as despite the home side's league position, they have a decent side.
We had to fight back from a goal down twice, and it was the home side who had the better of the stats, so a decent point for sure.
The goals game from Nunez, and Bradley, and unfortunately Davies went off injured and will miss two games.
The side stay in third place, and there a few team changes for next week, with Jovic the big signing up front, alongside a new defender, midfielder, and back up striker.
Week 21
Luton 1-2 Bristol City
City deservedly edged the game to move above Luton in the league.
We perhaps played a little too openly against a very good side, but abs are more important than points for the team.
Awoniyi celebrated being made captain with an early goal, but City came back well in the second half. gg dude.
There were several team changes for the game, with new signings perhaps needing more time to settle in, with Jovic having a quiet game, we were also missing the injured Davies at the back.
The side confirmed they had signed yet another striker yesterday, which will see an older defender leave this week.
Week 22
Huddersfield 2-1 Luton
What looks like a tight away loss was anything but. It was a clear display of how to throw a game away!
Luton had two men sent off within an hour, a sub got injured after one minute of coming on, which led to a crappy sub striker playing in midfield, and also.. the game finished with Luton playing with 3 defenders and attacking football away with 9 men!
How it remained so tight is major surprise, and Huddersfield dominated the game.
The star of the show, if that is the right word, was keeper Chevalier, who made 23 saves and got bumper abs.
Whilst two players are welcome back from last week, another two now miss the next game.
Week 23
Luton 4-0 Middlesborough
Clinical display from the Hatters! We decided to play to our strengths and go A for this one, and it certainly worked.
Our front line is looking good these days, with Jovic, Awoniyi and Idrissi all having a good day.
Boro will feel hard done by with the scoreline, as they had some decent possession, but it was the firepower that mattered on the day, with keeper Chevalier keeping them out well at the back too.
Bernard was unlucky not to get man of the match on a rare start too.
Week 24
Stockport 3-0 Luton
Well that sucked! We gave up tactical and home advantage, and once Stockport scored just before half time there was no looking back for them. Both teams are flirting around the playoff zone, but Luton were definitely second best in this one.
There weren't many positives to take from this game, so we move on and hope the next one turns out better!
Week 25
Luton 2-1 Coventry
Slightly fortuitous win, with the last minute sucker punch goal, but we'll take it.
We started with the adventurous A, but Coventry hit first, and we switched it up to an E, but didn't get anywhere, so switched back later on, and that's when the goals came. Coventry might be down the bottom, but have been in inproved form of late.
Is Loader going to be our super-sub, after he came on and hit the winner, hopefully!
Still lurking around the playoff zone, though promotion is definitely not part of the plan.
Week 26
Luton 1-2 Brentford
Hmm predictable tactics led to a predictable result. We've been chasing some attacking abs, but don't have the strength overall to make it work. Brentford were well worthy winners, and it could have been worse except for some inspired keeping and a late goal from Awoniyi. Some decent abs were gained, but it goes against the grain not putting winning first, so there are likely to be some changes for the next game. gg dude
