    Feyenoord 0 - 1 Atletico Madrid
and finally it happened..........Atletico player really poorly and won a game. It must be very satisfying indeed to finally get a win against the grain. Atletico simply never got going in this game and a shot count of 9-5 should have given Feyenoord some welcome points. An Odegaard winner however gave Atletico three points and a place back in the top8.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "Bloody beautiful that we have 3 of the so many lost points we should have had this season back. We got out of jail in this one".

Next up will be a game against a Roma side who are underperforming for the talent in their squad

Final Score : AC Milan 1 - 0 Atletico Madrid
AC Milan featured at the top end of being clinical with chances for and against last season and they have repeated it again this putting them in a commanding position and still with an outside chance at winning the league. Atletico are at the other end of the scale with goals conceded at higher than normal ratios. It was no surprise then when Atletico played AC Milan off the park with a shot count of 10-17 only to fall to a 1-0 defeat. Stegen made an astonishing 12 saves on his way to a clean sheet.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "That was an important game in that we could have got a lot closer to Ac Milan. This result possibly puts them out of touch now. Very very frustrating result given a really good performance".

Atletico Madrid 1 Real Madrid 1
Against a full strength Real side riding high at the top of the league this is probably a point earned than two points dropped. A shot count of 9-9 produced a fair draw for both sides. Atletico have traded blows with the top2 in recent games and influenced the title race.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "We did enough to get a point but fall back a bit in the chasing pack".

    Rangers 2 Atletico Madrid 1
Just as Atletico were threatening good form and good results it was two steps backawards as they managed to lose another game that they won the shot count. A 9-13 overall count despite being own to 10-men after 78 minutes should have been enough for at least a point but too often performances do not get results.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "Frustration again as that pegs us right back with Real Madrid next up putting us under pressure. We lose Cristante for the midweek cup game. We are playing well enough to finish top-four but not getting what we deserve. All we can do is go again and keep pegging away".

    Atletico Madrid 3 - 1 Juventus
Juventus are having a magnificent season with their defence so tight. This however, was an opportunity of pulling back three points on a team above Atletico. Indeed the first goal is always imortant and R_K_Muani (31) grabbed it. This gave the home side opportunity to control matters and M_Odegaard (73), R_Sessegnon (74) made the scoreline 3-0 before Juve pulled a late goal back. A shot count of 19-10 showed this was a good performance and result. It was a good result for the league as several teams are hoping for the top twos form to take a significant dip and indeed AC Milan are now only 7 points off the pace.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "Very happy wtith that game. We are a side who have now started to get points that the performances are meriting and to be in 5th place from where we were this season is a great comeback. We will keep fighting and see where the season goes from here".

    Sevilla 0 - 4 Atletico Madrid
Sevilla have been in scintilating form of late as they push for a champions league place. Atletico have been improving and so it was a case of who could carry on the good form. Atletico were in a clinical mood with a shot count of 6-12 producing a fine result, if somewhat flattering. Goals were scored from all over the field M_Skriniar (11), M_van_de_Ven (31), K_Havertz (46), B_Cristante (59).

Atletico have moved up to 06th in the table with the top9 having firmly broken away from the rest of the league. Roma could yet comeback but they have a lot of work to do. A 3rd place finish looks to be the best achievable target with Real Madrid and Juventus playing out for the title unless PSG can go on a long winning run.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "That was a great win at my old club who I always like to see do well and we wish them well for the remainder of the season".

Next up is an away trip to Celtic in the quarter finals of the DPT. Atletico travel without the suspended Dimarco who would have been a key player.

    Atletico Madrid 2 - 1 Lazio
Struggling Lazio brough the big-D to Atletico and it almost paid dividends. Atletico had the referee to thank for two penalties (the first of the season) the second of which was in the 91st minute.
Atletico probably would not have needed the second penalty had Dimarco not seen a red card in the 71st minute. With Lazio remaining D at 1-0 down it was only the 1-man absence that gave them the change to draw level. A shot count of 11-8 was just enough to win the game,

Manager Simon Marsh commented "I hope Ryan keeps plugging away with Lazio as I firmly believe he will get them out of trouble yet. They have had awful luck this season and hopefully it turns for him sooner rather than later".

    Napoli 0 - 0 Atletico Madrid
A tale of two sides countering with the home side playing only one striker ensured a very low shot count of only 5-3. Neither side could take one of their few opportunities and so a 0-0 draw ensued. This game would see the referee blow the whistle to the half way point in the season and one in which Atletico would be 08th in the table.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "Its been a bit of a grind playing catch up after such a poor start to the season. If we can continue the recent improvement we could climb a few places up the league table. We have made a few more changes so let see what we can do in the second half".

      Celtic 1 - 4 Atletico Madrid

Atletico manager Simon Marsh was looking to take steps towards his first FFO semi-final. Celtic had already won at Atletico this season and nothing could be taken for granted.
The game couldnt have gone much better with goals through K_Havertz (12), R_Sessegnon (13,24). Celtic pulled one back but Saint_Maximin (92) put the icing on the cake with a late fourth that should surely see Atletico into the semis.

Manager Simon Marsh commented "We are wise enough to know the tie is not fully over. We should progress but injuries/suspensions could hit or we could have red cards on the day that change the tie. We will therefore treat the game with respect although one or two fringe players may get a few minutes. Mati may play Neres/Weston who could do with a full 90 so team news could be interesting".

      Atletico Madrid 2 Celtic 0

With a commanding 4-1 win in the first leg the home side could afford to rest a couple of main players for this one. It was a surprise to see the away side play long ball football needing three goals. A 2-0 win with a shot count of 10-7 gave an overall 6-1 aggregate win. A flattering scoreline by a long margin but Atletico march onto the semi-finals.

Atletico manager Simon Marsh commented "Got to feel for Mati with this one as we really found clinical shooting boots over the two legs. This is my best cup run since coming to FFO and hopefully we can make the final".

Rangers stunned Villa joint cup favourites to proceed following a penalty shootout.
Crystal Palace stunned Bayern by coming back to win their tie.
Blackburn were hammered by Liverpool 5-2 overall.

News filtered though of the semi final draw

      Rangers v Liverpool
      Atletico Madrid v Crystal Palace

The total attempts on an opponents goal minus the total attempts on your own goal is a decent indicator of how well the team is competing.
The first column denotes the total shots calculation and the second column the current league placing.
The biggest difference is Lazio who are technically playing well enough to be 9th in the league but are bottom.

          Atletico Madrid 3 Roma 0

Well what a topsy turvy night of all emotions.

Firstly an incredible performance to hammer Roma 4-0. A shot count of 22-11 was brilliant against a top-4 EFL team who are struggling with form. Saint_Maximin (23), R_K_Muani (32,66), M_van_de_Ven (78) scored the goals on the evening.
The terrible news to come following the game is an injury to Martinez that will keep him out of the league games of Celtic and Inter but more importantly the DPT semi final first leg.
In addition the clubs best defender Skriniar took a fifth booking of the season which will also keep him out of the DPT semi-final.
          A cruel twist of fate.
Crazily the club did a deal with Napoli today for Haraslin to join them at the end of the week. Haraslin has been given game time but was unable to gain any abs until tonight when he suddently popped up with an assist. Napoli are now gettng themselves a bargain!
