    LUTON LOWDOWN

It's time for your monthly dose of Luton Town news, as the side continue to rebuild in the Championship under caretaker boss Kirby.

In the league it's been an up and down month, with results dropping off a little from the early season surprise surge into the playoff zone, they have now dropped out of the top 6, but are still hanging on in there with some decent results. They continue to overperform however, based on their squad and wage bill compared to most sides in the league.

The side also remain in the FLT cup for now, with a 3rd round game tonight against league 1 opposition, there is some hope they side can progress further in the competition, however the manager has so far chosen to given some squad players minutes in these games, so there is no guarantee.

In terms of transfer news, there has been some good progress with squad development, as some oldies have been sold off, and a couple of younger midfielders brought in, in terms of Camus and Florentino. Awoniyi has added quality up front, and Tagliafico was brought in at the back to add steel. The exception appears to be Tagliafico, who is older than most, but the boss has explained the 2 for 1 to sign him was a good one, and the plan is to sell him on once he uprates.

The big news however is the sale of top midfielder Zielinski, who turned 21 rated and was immediately sold off to the free list. Why? you might ask. The plan was always to sell him once he uprated, however it took longer than expected due to form and injuries. The plan now appears to be to try and sign a keeper from the weekly player auction. Something which is much needed given having a 22 rater in the nets, despite how well Soares has been playing.

Anyway lets get on with the results update -

    Week 10

    Luton 0-0 Norwich

A decent draw for Luton, to keep their good form going.
Norwich with the counter had the slight edge, but there wasn't much in the game, and it was a relief Luton's keeper kept a clean sheet.
Midfield star man Zielinkski went off injured early on, which didn't help
Bradley was man of the match at the back, and some decent abs were had.
Still clinging on in there in the top 6 somehow, though a tricky match against Forest next

    Week 11

    Forest 2-1 Luton

Well deserved win for Forest here, who dominated the game.
We thought the counter might work, but a first minute goal meant we switched plans and lost TA.
We perhaps missed Zielinski in the middle, but it wasn't great. gg dude

Positives - Awoniyi gave it a good go up front, squaddie Veiga gets a goal
Negatives - Poor performance, Zielinksi still out another game.

    Week 12

    Luton 0-1 West Brom

Disappointing result for Luton, in what was a fairly even game.
The baggies scored midway through the first half, and despite making a few changes the home side couldn't get back in the game.
The difference was maybe the away side's defence, but in reality it was a poor performance from Luton.

Positives - Richards had a great game at the back, some good deals off the pitch this week
Negatives - Poor result, booking, dropping out of the top 6.

    Week 13

    Bournemouth 3-1 Luton

Well that was ermm rubbish! Stats wise it looked reasonably close, but Bournemouth were very clinical early on, rushing into a three goal lead in 22 minutes. Zielinski got one back late on, the the comeback never really looked on despite the away side pushing forward nearer the end. gg dude.
Luton are looking to do more transfer business to improve the squad, but maybe all these changes aren't helping the team.

Positives - Florentino had a steady debut, and Soares made quite a few saves
Downsides - Poor result, Adebayo sending off, wayward shooting.

    Week 14

    Luton 3-2 Sunderland

Exciting game for the neutrals, and even more so for the Luton fans!
It didn't look good when Sunderland went two goals up, but it was a great comeback, with Awoniyi the catalyst for second half recovery. Luton shaded the game on the stats, but the away boss must be gutted his side couldn't hold on.

    Week 15

    Sheffield Utd 3-0 Luton

The Blades well and truly dominated this one. I'm not sure if Kels is still around but her team are way better than most in the division.
We tried to limit the damage, but played poorly, and deserved the result.
We will keep making changes to try and get the side a bit better and younger, though having a low rated keeper is quite a handicap for results, so we may have to look at that at mid season.
The only aim for this week now is to get Zielinksi the one pass he needs to be sold as a 21!

    Week 16

    Luton 1-0 Wolves

Bit of a surprise win here, as Luton had been out of form lately, and Wolves are a strong side.
However, Luton turned up and limited Wolves to very few chances and took one of their own, with Darwin Nunez finding the net in the second half. Zielinski had a good game before his prize of being sold off to the free list.
The win moves Luton back to up to just outside the playoff places, the important bit now is how they can spend their money to improve the side though. Priorities appear to be midfield and in goal.

    Week 17

    Luton 2-1 Stoke

We sneaked a close game here, as both sides put in a decent performance.
It started P v P and the stats were fairly close at the end of the game, but Luton were a little more clinical.
We had a weakened side out with the sale of Zielinkski and suspension of Camus, so it was more by necessity we switched to a 523 formation, and the strikers did well, with Awoniyi netting the winner.
Hopefully we can spend our cash wisely to build the side, and also build on the current 7th place.

    FLT round 3

Wigan 3-3 Luton (Luton win on pens)

Pheww! Luton scrape through after taking some chances on team selection to play squad players.
We started with 2 squad players, and triggered bringing on 2 more when going 2 up after 10 minutes, which gave them some lovely minutes, with the extra time as well, but led to a very nail biting game to see if they would survive and go through.
Nunez and Awoniyi were the star players who made the difference in the end, but it was a close call, with the stats in Wigan's favour.
The early two goal lead was chipped away to 2-2, and then Wigan were awarded a penalty in the second half to make it 3-3, fortunately Awoniyi nipped in to equalise to take the game to extra time.
The penalty shoot out also went back and forth, with some missed chances before Davies hit the decisive goal to win 5-4

Soares performed heroics in goal in the shoot out, but his time is limited now, with the imminent arrival of a new keeper from the auction, though he has earned himself a move to a top club as back up.

    Week 18

    Fulham 3-4 Luton

What an exciting game, won with the last kick of the match!
Luton were undoubtably helped by Fulham manager Joe going AWOL, last rumoured to be seen in a bar in Thailand surrounded by young ladies. Despite the T however, Luton made hard work of it, going behind 3 times before equalising in the 83rd minute, and scoring an injury time winner.
Florentino was man of the match, and there were also great performances from Davies and Awoniyi.
This moves Luton up to 5th at nearly the half way point, way better than was expected.

Next week sees a great young keeper arrive, and Soares depart for Man City, with more transfers possibly lined up too.
Things are bright, things are Orange!
