And now for something completely different, (a more in-depth look at the last ten matches).
At first I was hesitant in posting match results as I thought it would be redundant in writing about one loss after another. But I’ve had a change of heart, I’ve decided to release a quick sort of greatest hits album concerning matches played. It was written off the cuff, please take it with a grain of salt.
Inter Milan 1 - 0 Feyenoord
A goal in the 48th by K_Coman was all that was needed for Inter to get their 3 points, Feyenoord gave it their all, but it just wasn’t enough. Manager Buck did mention after the match that “Certainly no shots at goal can result in no goals being scored on our part, it isn’t rocket science”. Once again alarm bells went ringing after a viscous studs first tackle by Y_Adli in the 88th minute renewed concern over needless violence. Many believed that the yellow card handed out was too lenient. Calling for stricter measures in handling certain fouls.
Feyenoord 0 - 2 Barcelona
Barcelona were to much for the tub boys, scoring twice within 10 minutes, K_De_Bruyne in the 41st and R_Lewandowski in the 47th. Feyenoord did every thing correct except score, for their home opener. It was a rough and tumble afternoon, with 5 fouls in total. The host were guilty of 3 bookings P_Goncalves (27), D_Hancko (28), M_Pederson (47), the visitors with two, R_Lewandowski (64), J_Musiala (89). The loss was the second in as many matches for the tub boys.
Monaco 3 - 1 Feyenoord
The tub boys end the match against Monaco in true shambolic fashion, the last 20 minutes saw the visitors lose their well earned lead at Stade Louis II. A match that could have gone either way ends in a 3-1 victory for the hosts. What could have been Feyenoords first victory of season, after holding on to an early lead, saw it all slip away as the hosts were able to even the score in the 72nd of the second half. Arthur’s go ahead goal in the 85th and R_Orsolini’s final nail in the coffin at the 86th, quickly put an end for any real hope for victory.
Feyenoord 0 - 0 Fiorentina
Feyenoord did it in style, getting their first point of the season against Fiorentina in front of home supporters. Fans at De Kuip were privy to an old-school scoreless draw. A strangely cautious match between two veteran clubs that have weathered the test of time. Apart from the hamstring sustained in the 39th minute to O_Wijndal of Fiorentina, the match didn’t produce much fanfare. An evenly played affair throughout.
Dortmund 0 - 2 Feyenoord
Feyenoord celebrated their first win of the season away from home at Signal Iduna Park against Borussia Dortmund. The visitors got on the scoreboard early in the first when D_Hancko’s perfectly timed pass caught O_Idrissi who’s shot at goal did not disappoint. Like a concert, the visiting ultras chanted ENCORE! and O_Idrissi obliged, adding one more in the 29th off a pass by Q_Timber. An overall close affair with the hosts edging the visitors on a couple of match stats. No doubt a delightful day for all, especially forward O_Idrissi who’s two goals for the afternoon earned him a MoM.
Feyenoord 1 - 4 Sporting Lisbon
Is it fair to say, back to the drawing board. After a draw and a win, Feyenoord’s high, sadly did not last very long. A dose of reality was to come, and that was Sporting Lisbon. O_Idrissi still had pep in his step after scoring two the previous match, and got the ball rolling against Lisbon in the 10th, much to the home fans delight. With nothing to lose the visitors went on the attack and did not look back, scoring 4 unanswered goals, R_Hojlund (17), N_Pepe (21), L_Jovic (46) and G_Rutter (65). A truly nightmarish end to such a positive start.
Atletico Madrid 2 - 0 Feyenoord
Feyenoord still recovering from the debacle that occurred in their previous match were basically null and void at Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano against a formidable Atletico Madrid. The scoreline was overly polite in contrast to the actual showing on the pitch, with the hosts dominating all aspects of the match. R_Sessegnon put Atletico in front in the 20th and E_Pieters adding another for posterity in the 89th. M_Skriniar received MoM that afternoon but in our opinion the real hero was non other than A_Muric who bravely defended his goal, allowing on two to get by.
Bayern Munich 2 - 1 Feyenoord
Courageous is an adjective that might well describe Feyenoord’s match against one of the leagues top tier clubs Bayern Munich. B_Sesko’s two goals in the 5th and 35th minutes at the Allianz Arena in front of supporters would stifle most clubs, but the tub boys were raring for a fight on that afternoon. The visitors were able to edge closer early in the second when E_Gutierrez’s pass to P_Goncalves was easily converted to goal. Sadly for the tub boys, that was all she wrote, the hosts were able to hold on to the win by the narrowest of margins.
Feyenoord 4 - 0 Bayer Leverkusen
The ultras seeking redemption for another heart breaking loss the proceeding week, were in a boisterous mood leading up to the start of the match, chanting “Sacked in the morning, you’re getting sacked in the morning” -- we presume in reference to manager Buck --. The hosts did not disappoint, the fans that made their way to De Kuip on this faithful day were privy to a disciplined and well played match. P_Goncalves made the most of it scoring twice, the first early in the match after he was able to nutmeg his way past C_Soyuncu and earn a clear shot at goal. The second, a gutsy header off a pass by J_Bagan. The third goal was an own goal by T_Meunier from a shot that rebounded off the defender into the net. O_Idrissi was able to add to the lead in the 54th of the second half.
Napoli 0 - 2 Feyenoord
A tough match between two similarly skilled clubs went down to the wire. The visitors were able to take advantage in the 33rd after a defensive blunder that allowed E_Gutierrez easy access at net. The defensive midfielders lone goal would suffice as a well tuned Feyenoord were able to keep the hosts at bay for the remainder of the match. O_Idrissi would add to the lead on a penalty shot after being fouled by keeper O_Vlachodimos in the 82nd.
