  • Barnsley out of Europe already?

Barnsley have found it tough in the Dave Phillips Cup this season. Pitted in the toughest group by far, against European heavy weights, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, as well as on fire Tottenham Hotspur, it was always going to be very tricky for the little English side.

Fans expected a better start. So far after two games, it's resulted in a close home defeat 2-1 to Bayern Munich. In matchday two, a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of Marshy's men from Madrid, sees Barnsley on 0 points and looking like their European dreams are to be dashed in the group stage.

The next round is crucial for Barnsley as they host Tottenham, and then travel to North London (or North East, South, West London if the Chelsea manager was writing this). Two wins here would propel them back into the mix, anything less than that, and it's essentially goodbye.

Another thought that has crossed the mind of the Barnsley management team is to play the players that need minutes in the next 4 games. Although, Borges, the 14 rated midfieider has made his minutes, the club still has 16 rated and 14 rated defenders who need game time along with, supersub Haraslin who still needs 1000+ this season as the club's third choice attacker. There's also Ben Waine (we assume although he is a New Zealander not an Aussie, maybe its Bruce Waine) who needs a couple of hundred more minutes. These 4 games could see 360+ minutes of football that if used wisely could be invaluable to the club's premier league run of playing their best XI in even more minutes as the season goes on.

Bookies say Barnsley are out, but Harris isn't throwing in the towel just yet. We don't have a European game for a little while so just be patient folks, be patient.
