RBS Salzburg Press Conference-after EFL Cup Round 1

Thacker: This is a bitter defeat for the our club. We did not have our heads in the game allowed ourselves to go down 0-2 after 3 minutes. However, we did not fold, we immediately started fighting back, and the results is one of the most epic games I have ever been a part of. A lot of credit to Capaldo knocking some of the wind out of Prague’s sails at the 10th minute. From that on it was just a grind. There is not victory found on the stat sheet, but we pressed them hard. It was just not to be.

Reporter 1: How is the feeling in the locker room right now?
Thacker: Well, first they are exhausted. 120 minutes of football and a shootout will do that to you. But I think they realize how well they really did. We played toe to toe with Prague and never let up. I told them they should be proud of the match they played, even though we did not win.

Reporter 2: Do think VAR should have been used on Pasnik’s found in minute 91?
Thacker: I’m not going to comment on the officiating, We’ll look at the tape and talk to Pasnik about it. That was a big moment for just his second EFL game.

Reporter3: Any comment on Piatkowski’s shot selection in the penalty.
Thacker: I’m sure he would like to have that back. I’d like to have seen a higher percentage shot made.

Reporter 4: You’ve said that one of your primary goals this season was to get farther into the Cup rounds. With this setback, how do you go from here.
Thacker: We learn from this. We learn from the lapse in the first half, we learn from penalty called against us in minute 91, and we learn from the shootout. I have a young club, today they’ve had a hard lesson about cup football, It’s my job to make sure they remember it. Thank you for your time.
