Stadium expansion at Celtic Park
Glasgow, Scotland - 29 May 2024
With an astounding eagerness, and in an exciting move for the club, Celtic FC has today made the announcement of their plans to expand the capacity of their iconic stadium, Celtic Park.
The stadium, sometimes nicknamed as “Paradise” or "Parkhead" by its supporters, will be increased from 50,000 to 55,000 seats. This is part of a bold project that will initially see the club spend £8 million from its funds.
The investment to expand the stadium is part of Celtic's long term plan to improve the matchday experience and welcome a growing number of fans. With matchday tickets constantly being sold the club aims to gross out from each home game as much as possible.
During the announcement, Celtic Manager Matias Finkelstein stated his delight at the development of the Stadium: “We are thrilled to announce this important investment in Celtic Park. Our fans are the heart and soul of this club and we are committed to giving them the best possible experience. The upgrade will allow more fans to be part of each one of our matches in the upcoming season and cups, and will help us to continue to grow as a club.”
The expansion project will be run through the off-season, in hopes of having it ready and completed upon the start of the new season on July 1st. Although, with the chances of the Stadium being ready before this date, the Club will be planning some top-class friendlies, not only to celebrate the inauguration of the upgraded stadium but also to welcome and test the new faces in the team in preparation for the season ahead, in hopes make the last necessary adjustments to have the team ready.
As part of this project, the club plans to increase by another 5 to 10 thousand seats in the next available window. Which should see the Stadium grow to 65,000 seats.
The shortage in club funds and the limits on expansion set to the rules were considered during the planning of the expanse, also being affected by the idea of the team to invest part of the funds in youth development, otherwise, the team claims that the increase would have been immediately brought up to 60,000 seats this same season.
