  • Finance Director! No need for a finance director.

Manager Buck is well known for his imprudence when it comes to wheeling and dealings throughout his career, that is to say he’s blown a few bucks (no pun intended) on acquisitions, however, to be fair, nothing of late. Though, on occasion it has gotten him in a bit of a quagmire with the clubs bookkeepers.

It’s never pleasant when the clubs finance director is breathing down your neck, scrutinizing every penny about to be spent. Not all managers can claim Carte Blanche status, a rare luxury slated only for the few. For the clever managers, there is always a way to acquire needed funds, but we won’t go into that. In Buck’s case, it’s never more than a few heated discussions, chairs broken over desks, threats, etc, for the finance director to see the managers point of view.

    Looking at the books.

Through the eyes of Feyenoords finance director, we see that the clubs player investment is at 370,000,000$. Regarding monthly/weekly debits/credits we have an average monthly player salary of 9,750,000$ or 2,437,500$ weekly. Gate earnings along the lines of 1,250,000$ per league match, with an increase in revenue for cup matches, 500,000$ DBC and 2,500,000$ EFL per match. Weekly media income varies monthly, basically an average of 2,500,000$ to 3,000,000$ per month for season III.

    Looking back.

At the end of season III, Feyenoord’s coffers were at a comfortable 77,000,000$, however, thanks to some off-season player purchases, three to be exact, totalling approximately 61,000,000$. The club currently has at its disposal a meagre 16,000,000$ to do what it pleases.

    Looking forward.

Without repeating what was previously stated in the preceding paragraphs regarding spending and earnings. We’ll be focusing more on what the clubs itinerary concerning the behind the scenes and/or extra investments that are scheduled for the foreseeable future. De Kuip should be seeing an upgrade of 5000K seats 8,000,000$, or a possible 10,000K seat expansion worth 16,000,000$. All depending on the clubs fortunes in the upcoming season, no need to over spend if its not necessary.

A new venture for the clubs newly acquired youth academy. The club will exercise its right and purchase youth players, the options will be 12,000,000$ if the club returns to EFL1 play or 8,000,000$ if demoted, either way an investment in the youth academy is a priority.

The club has seriously considered scouting as a choice, but at the current rate of 45,000,000$ for an EFL1 scout and 25,000,000$ for an EFL2 scout, the board has opted for a more home grown approach and will be giving out bonuses to any employee(s) that can find that diamond in the rough.

Positive feedback in regards to coaches coming aboard. If not next season, the season after. The 20,000,000$ fee seems reasonable, and the addition of coaches will benefit the club in the long run.

Auctions, as usual are a great way to add much needed talent to the squad. The hope of being invited to the auctions that occur yearly is undoubtedly a privilege, something that has eluded the club of late. But, is something we are looking forward too in the upcoming auction at mid-season, barring any unforeseen change in plans. In the end it’s a timing game and depending on the time the 30,000,000$ to 40,000,000$ entry fee can be a little steep.

Interests in player deals is obviously unavoidable, But as stated previously by club officials, the clubs motto to “build superstars and not buy”, is the reason for the newly implemented strategy that will see a restraint on any potential signings over 40,000,000$. The question now is, how realistic is this almost farcical objective.

Looking at the numbers for the behind the scenes and extra investments.
    Upgrades Next season Max Min
    Stadium upgrade 16,000,000 8,000,000
    Academy augment 12,000,000 8,000,000
    Off-season deals 40,000,000 25,000,000
    Coach in 2 seasons 20,000,000

If any errors in my calculations, blame the finance director.
