NEWS out of Barnsley today, confirms captain choice for at least the first half of the season.
Luis Maximiano will return as club captain. The 24-year old will have a huge task on his hands, trying to marshal an ageing, and quite frankly championship level defence. Maximiano has been at the club for his entire 20s, and has become a fan favourite. "I am honoured to take on this role, James (Maddison) did a great job last season, but the returning manager has put his faith in me, and identified the backline as a potential tough area for us as we near the season." There were rumours of Luis signing for an unnamed hugely global club, as he remains one of the best young keepers in world football, but he just really likes Barnsley. "Look, the weather sucks, it is no Portugal! But, this group of lads are amazing. I am good friends with fellow compatriot, Borges, and Delort was a special friend before he transferred off to Sparta in EFL2 (huge signing for them, probably best striker in the league). Ismaily and I hang out at a lot of Brazilian bbq restaurants, and Edgar likes to try join in!"
New signings Kalas and Haraslin have settled well, rumours are out there that Kalas has been transfer listed already. While it is true they were testing the waters for offers, the club and Kalas are happy to move forward and dig deep this season.
Gagliardini has not been able to be moved on. He is a very handy player, and only 30. The club wishes to again announce offers between 18-20M will be accepted for the man who will be worth 20 million with mere weeks of the season starting.
Lucas Digne has been training with the club, after initially getting lost on his way to his new club. We welcomed him with open arms and maybe he just wanted to say hi to our french contingent, Boucher, Mollet, Bellegarde and new youth signing Lahmadi! Unfortuantely, fans, he will be off to his correct destination soon!
