With the start of the season looming the Toffees have taken a huge risk. The issue? No manager, an aging squad and among other issues no money to spend.
What do they do? What direction do they head in? Do they aim for a top manager to help them or do they give someone else a shot that they don’t necessarily deserve.
It seems they’ve plunged for the later, with Mike Bridge seemingly not leaving Edgeley park, he was spotted leaving Everton’s training ground. Having just been spotted, it was no time at all until the papers had the story Bridge had filled the hot seat in a caretaker/interim basis.
The first task to deal with upon accepting the temporary role is to clear out the dead wood. Seemingly, the keepers and defence were checked and deemed ok, with little or no changes required here. The midfield, way too old and imbalanced, then evaluating the strikers, there are just too many.
Bridge wasted no time in contacting as many agents and managers of other teams to move the players no longer required by the club. As shown before he isn’t scared of wielding the axe if he felt the team or club required it. Off the record he spoke with me and made it clear Everton were in a relegation fight last year and to prevent that, a lot of changes were required.
The rumoured changes are as follows:
Sub defender J_Stephens makes way in a swap deal with Luton, with Tyler Edward’s look a like Nathan Patterson heading home to Goodison park. As Stephen’s is better stats wise cash will be coming in to cover that.
The defensive midfielder B_Kamara, who has his best years ahead of him, was a bit of a shock for Bridge to let him go, however a swap with Lazio for H_Aouar. A magnificent AM with the same development path as Kamara but slightly ahead.
The veteran defensive midfielder K_Kampl, seemingly surplus to requirements at his age. Bridge anticipating his legs have gone. Swapping for a squad player and cash.
Veteran attacking midfielder K_Bellarabi, the same as Kampl, surplus to requirements and it looks like Aouar will replace him. Under the same circumstances too, cash in and a squad player.
After an extensive test by Bridge’s coaching staff, M_Dahoud failed the standards test and has been released by mutual consent. The cash from his release has gone on a squad replacement from Juventus.
Now the big moves, V_Gyokeres is waiting for his transfer to be ratified by the league after a cash bid was lodged, believed to be around the 35M pound mark to Betis. Once ratified Bridge will look to replace him with Mowatt from Wolves who will give the team further premier league experience.
G_Moreno was never going to be the player to keep this team up and after a chat about playing time Bridge released him so he could find himself a new team.
Finally and the biggest move so far is, O_Edouard who will be moving in a swap with Saint_Maximin. Edouard stated he couldn’t turn down such a move meaning he gets to play at Old Trafford and play for Manchester United. Whereas Saint_Maximin can be the biggest fish in a much smaller pond, maybe even become a club legend at the toffees! Rumours are rife that there was a bidding war for Saint_Maximin with an unnamed club! Bridge is also rumoured to have not wanting to let Edouard go, a reliable source stating it was Bowen who he first wanted to move on. But, with such a prized player around he had to sacrifice the better player on Edouard to get his man.
