Villarreal Football Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Matthew Bethell as the club's new first-team manager on a two-year contract.

Bethell boasts a wealth of experience in the ESMS football management scene and is now ready to step into a new challenge by managing the Yellow Submarine.

Currently, Villarreal are sitting 18th position in the EFL2 league table, having played 18 games with a record of 4 wins, 6 draws, and 8 losses. However, with only two wins in their last six games, the board has decided to bring on board a full-time manager to help the club achieve better results.

Matthew replaces current caretaker manager Ray Wallace, who is in charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. Wallace has been warm and receptive to the new Villarreal boss and is looking forward to seeing the progress the club will make under new management.

Matthew has already outlined his plans to implement a more direct style of play at the Estadi de la Ceràmica, and he believes that fans should be excited about the club's future prospects.

Matthew Bethell recently became the first-team manager at Villarreal Clube de Futbol. He chose to start his career at the Spanish club because he was impressed by the exciting young prospects that the club has on offer.

Although he has only been in his new role for a day, we spoke with him to get his thoughts on the team's talent and how he plans to strengthen it in the future.

MB: "When I was considering applying for a club, the presence of Filip Jorgensen was a major factor that caught my attention. Despite his young age, he is already playing at an exceptional level. As we all know, having a reliable goalkeeper in ESMS football management is an essential element of any successful team. I am truly impressed with Jorgensen's skills and abilities and I firmly believe that he will remain as my first-choice goalkeeper for the duration of my tenure as Villarreal manager. Additionally, we have two other excellent goalkeepers, Lucas Canizares and Freddie Woodman, as backup. So, I am confident that we have a strong and stable team in the goalkeeper department, and no changes are necessary for now."

MB: "I strongly believe that our team's defense is an area that requires small improvement. While we have some exceptional talent in Matteo Gabbia and Alfonso Pedraza... Aissa Mandi and Alberto Moreno, despite their clear talents, are ageing, which may impact their ability to perform at their best in the long run. It is crucial that we establish a sense of solidarity within the team to ensure a better long-term future. However, our current defensive depth is weak, which limits our ability to change our playing style and adapt to different situations, especially when we need to play with five defenders. Therefore, we must address these issues to achieve our goals and ensure that we have a strong and versatile defensive unit."

MB: "The midfield of our team is a fascinating aspect. It offers us a great deal of versatility and allows us to adapt to different formations, which is quite beneficial for us. Additionally, the average age of our midfielders is quite ideal for our long-term plans. In light of this, I recently had a discussion with Francis (Coquelin) regarding his future, and we both agreed that it would be best for him to finish off his career with a club that can offer him more game time. I have clearly communicated my intention to offer more game time to the younger players, which will aid in their development. As a result, I envisage Denis Suarez and Alex Baena playing a more significant role in the midfield under my management. They are both outstanding players who possess the necessary skills and energy to take our midfield to the next level."

MB: "I have a very strong forward line that will allow us to switch between playing two or three forwards. I'm happy with the talent I have at my disposal, but I've made it clear that I will be looking to build a more youthful team moving forward. However, I cannot deny that Joselu is a class talent in this Villarreal side. He has scored six goals this season, being the club's joint leading top goalscorer, so he will get his chance to continue what he started. I will have a discussion with him about his ambitions come the end of the season. Oliver Burke and Aimar Oroz will both get a significant amount of playing time, while Gomez and Brereton will provide depth in numbers. We are not currently looking into another potential forward in the market as we see other areas as a main priority."
