PRESSURE ON? UNITEDS YOUNG FORWARDS GIVEN 30 GOAL TAGET
The two are some of FFO's most sought after strikers and some of the hottest prospects around and whilst there is still time to grow and develop, the two proved to be forming a blossoming partnership in their first season together. The two hit 52 goals between them last time out, 28 & 24 respectively, but this season the manager has set the duo a target to break the 30 goal barrier.
Some might say it's a step too much, given the changes to the league in particular going back to a 20 game format, but having shown their capabilities the manager feels this should be the target the duo aim for if they are to go down as one of FFOs great striking duos. It's no secret there are some better forwards with the current game, some of which developed under somewhat different carnations of rules and development more so towards some of the younger names.
But, despite anything previous Outten has insisted the two are ready, capable and expected to make that next barrier.
"The two players upfront have both done very well in their Manchester United tenures so far but now we want and pretty much expect them to break the next level which is that 30 goal mark. We bought the two knowing their potential and they've shown it for sure. We're very pleased with how the two have performed, how they've worked and generally impressed with their outputs, although sometimes we need them to keep their emotions under control as we missed them too often last season.
"The games best strikers have all hit that 30 goal mark at least once in their careers, ofcourse some have scored more, but 30 is that next big step for these two."
HOW HAVE THEY FARED SO FAR?
GAMES | MINUTES | GOALS | SHOTS | ASSIST | PASSES | DICIPLINE | MIN PER GOAL | SHOTS PER GOAL | |
ADEYEMI S1 | 53 | 4733 | 28 | 174 | 3 | 59 | 10 | 169 | 6 |
ADEYEMI S2 | 48 | 4358 | 28 | 190 | 4 | 38 | 22 | 156 | 7 |
ANSU FATI | 50 | 4422 | 24 | 194 | 6 | 56 | 26 | 184 | 8 |
SANCHO | 52 | 4792 | 24 | 208 | 2 | 44 | 12 | 200 | 9 |
Adeyemi has actually come close to 30 goals in both his seasons at the club and you could argue a better discipline and injury record would've seen the German reach the tally. Last season has had the best goals per minute output of any of Uniteds forwards, but you could argue the shots to goals ratio is worse, or even the player is mustering more shots per game.
Ansu Fati averaged a goal every 2 games but had a worse shot to goal ratio and the worst disciple record. He does however, have the more creative output with 6 assists in his debut campaign.
Jadon Sancho departed for Fati and people felt the deal would take the club backwards. But, he and Fati had the same number of goals but the Spaniard actually shone the Englishman in every aspect (apart from the fabled discipline numbers).
It is very surprising that over 2 seasons, both strike partnerships have notched 52 goals with Adeyemi showing he is the main number 9. But will captain Fati change that this season?
