At the end of season break we are focusing on one of Leeds United's deals in the transfer market to examine the figures.

Leeds sold Enzo Fernandez to Celtic for
    £170,000,000
and replaced him with Sofian Amrabat for
    £86,700,000

    That is a profit of
    £83,300,000

    Let's examine the two players

    S_Amrabat 27 mor 1 16 21 9 29 1 629 291 297

    E_Fernandez 23 arg 1 15 20 11 27 1 943 820 75

As you can see Leeds have a higher standard of player, all be it losing out on some shooting and have lost four years. It would seem to be a very shrewd bit of business from manager Tim Davey who has spoken to us about this deal............

"I am delighted with these two deals. It highlights the business acumen of the club and shows the small gains we are able to make. When you piece together deals like this and multiply them over a few seasons it makes a huge difference to the club. It helps us progress. We have acquired a better play, all be it minimally and gained over 80 mil. We have lost 4 years in terms of age but for the value we have gotten out of the deal that is well worth it. It's incremental deals like this which helps us to be able to out perform our expectations and beyond our limits. There are a number of clubs in the game such as Man City, Roma, Real Madrid, PSG who are vastly superior in terms of finances and squad strength and it's getting the right balance in your squad and getting transfers right consistently that helps you remain competitive and hopefully keeps you in the conversation when it comes to honours. The auction can be a great tool to be able to improve your squad and that's why I always try and keep money back for it and generally it does pay off. You can kind of guess where people will be bidding and if you bid smart you have a good chance of getting your target.............. if you bid on the right player. We outbid Spurs by less than 10 mil and there is a degree of skill in that which we are pleased with. It takes experience and a bit of forethought.

We are lucky to have fans that are not expectant and that do not mount pressure on the club and the players and staff. They enjoy the entertaining football we play and really appreciate it when we are able to bring some success and trophy's but do not turn on us when we are not able to provide these. It comes down to footballing knowledge and our fans have that. They know we are not on the same tier as the big heads but massively appreciate that we are sometimes able to give them a run for their money. I'll be honest it makes it an easy job than managing a big head, the pressure is huge and every loss is sneered at by the rest of the game. Your often on a hiding to nothing if you don't win the lot which rarely happens. The managers at those clubs need to be thick skinned and I don't think I am all that well suited to that. I had some great success at Madrid but ultimately I did not enjoy it anywhere near as much as Leeds because the pressure is much less and it's easier to be an underdog. It's not that I am not ambitious but I find it more enjoyable and love the challenge of trying to punch above our weight. We did exactly that last season which ignited wild celebrations from the players, staff, fans and myself. I expect it will be quite some time for that to be repeated but we will always give our best to try and make it happen.

Ultimately it is my job to get us to a place where we are a member of the big head club, that's why these incremental transfer wins are so important to keep moving forward. But we know only too well every other club are doing or at least trying to the the exact same. Everyone can't win out of every deal so somewhere there are plenty y of people losing out, you just have to use your experience and noose to try and stay on the right side of the gains. It is a near impossible challenge to catch these sides, they all have managers who are very astute and experienced, they are all under pressure to keep the standards up so are motivated to keep progressing their clubs and with the players and finances at their disposal they generally have first dibs on the best players coming into the game. Look at the auction and Man City spending £693,000,000. Absolutely mind blowing sums. Now that player is not accessible to us. We would have to sell pretty much our whole squad to buy that player and even then might get pipped!!! He is an absolute beast and the edge he will give City will make it so hard for the rest of the prem. So all we can do is keep chipping away at these incremental gains and transfer gains to slowly attempt to catch them,. It may not be possible but one thing we do know and have prove, is that we an punch above our weight and give them a run for the money and that is what we continue to strive to do. "

Tim Davey's predicted top 6 finishes for the top two leagues, the Prem first followed by the mouthy league

    Premier League

1st Manchester City - With the addition of Bellingham together with an already superior squad, it is really difficult to see past City this season. Nick will want to reassert his authority and will be out to get the Prem title back. I can't see any way that doesn't happen.

2nd Manchester United - A tough two seasons for Steve but I think they are gradually getting back on track and showed some flashes of a resurgence last season. Another good auction signing adds to their already first class squad strength, I think they will step up this season. I say that most seasons so I have to be right eventually!!

3rd Leeds United - After a fairy-tale title win last season Leeds find them selves with the pressure and attention on them. Manager Tim Davey will have a tough task to repeat the huge over achievement of last season. The off season has seen Leeds lower their front line capability slightly but knock some age off of their defence and improve the passing of their strikers. There will be a target on Leeds back and they will have to be consistently at their best to recreate last season. They are anticipated to be a little way off of the Manchester clubs.

4th Arsenal - Steadily growing, with a squad that is not far away from being ready to compete but there is still work to do. Darren will have them prepared and good to go. On their day they can beat anybody but for them to produce a higher finish than predicted they will have to find their consistency and be clinical.

5th Chelsea - Similar to Arsenal. Andy has got them on the up again after many seasons in the doldrums under other inept management. There is a lot of work to do for them to become the super power of old but they do seem to be heading in the right direction.

6th Southampton - This is a side very much coming towards the end of a long transition and they are coming out the other side of it very much stronger. They sacrificed short term gains for long term gains and have added to their squad really well through the auction over the last few seasons. They are a bit of a wildcard who could surprise a few.

1st - Roma - An extremely tough call Roma and PSG, if anything it is a bit of a shot in the dark, the two teams are pretty well matched but of course PSG's side are much more youthful. We have gone with the experience of Roma's squad. In truth the race may be too close to call but in this instance we have gone for Roma.

2nd - PSG - After dominating the league last season, many will be expecting them to go again and win the league comfortably but the quality of Roma's squad and Derek being determined to catch up, it will be more difficult than some may think. We all know there a number of random factors and how easy it is to be on the right side of the luck highway. To get two titles in a row will be a difficult task even for a squad with such mind blowing numbers.

3rd - Real Madrid - A youthful side with an experienced manager BUT their numbers seem to come up a bit short at the moment. It does seem like 3rd is about their position at the moment. A side that can give any team a run for their money but ultimately they will have an up hill task trying get themselves in the conversation for the title as we feel Roma and PSG have the better squads. As we saw last season however, with Leeds and Porto the best squad does not always take the titles and you cannot rule out Madrid over achieving as little, getting the rub of the green and getting themselves up there. Going purely on the numbers though and going with the percentages we are picking them for 3rd.

4th - Atletico Madrid - Simon has bult a really competitive quad and should be proud to have advanced this side so much and put them up there in this conversation. They will need a bit of luck and for injuries and suspensions not to bite too hard but we think 4th could be theirs for the taking. This would be a bit of a wildcard pick as with Southampton in the Prem, but we think it can happen and will look forward to seeing what Atletico can do and to see if Simon can continue his good work.

5th - Barcelona - Under estimate Livi and any of his teams at your peril, which we have done here and which may come back to bite us come the end of the season. Numbers wise and quality wise they do seem to be a bit short but Livi is a master of squeezing blood out of a stone which may propel them to 5th position. We think 4th - 8th will be very tight and it could be decided on very small margins.

6th - Bayern Munich - A change in the tide for the sleeping giant's of the German kind. JB has gone down the youth route and has drastically reduced his main stat over the squad as a whole. Focusing on the future it seems. His desire to get to the top of the game has seen a change in policy. He has always had a fairly young side with Bayern but has gone the extra mile this time which will see them well out of any title race and firmly in the second band of teams. We think he may have the necessary experience to pip the likes of Inter in the race for the top six.

Leeds United Opt Out Of Pre Season Tournament
Premier League champions Leeds United have decided to opt out of the pre season tournament organised by the games head admin. Manager Tim Davey confirmed at yesterday's press conference with this to say.

        "
We have no desire to compete in this competition. We feel we would learn nothing from it and would not care either way if we won it. I would rather my team continue to train at our training ground, work on our fitness and most of all have a nice festive pre season break for a week. I have granted them time off to unwind and spend time with their families. I hope this much needed break will sharpen their focus when they return to the training pitch and for the start of the season. Flying out to gulf states in a money making exercise is not my bag. I prefer the fresh air here in god's country and it would do my players no good jetting off at this time. They have all had their holidays post season, they will now spend time with their families and enjoy Christmas and then it's back to work again. I have never been a fan of pre season tournaments. I feel they are not taken seriously which I struggle to be part of and if there is nothing at stake I cannot motivate myself. Have a lovely xmas everyone and I will look forward to seeing you in the new year. MOT."
