  • Off-season acquisitions and a quick view at Feyenoords roster for season 3...

Feyenoord’s 60,000,000$ off-season acquisition will see the 22 year old Celtic defender J_Bagan suiting up for the club in the upcoming season. The Fullback will no doubt add be a positive addition to the back-line. The purchase puts an end to manager Bucks quest for a defender after the departure of veteran G_Trauner near the end of last season.

Possible dark horse, forward M_Berry was obtained earlier today from the BHN window. The striker has little no league level experience and or playing time. Nonetheless, manager Buck sees a great deal of potential in the journeyman attacker.

Feyenoord squad gathered at DeKuip earlier today for a quick breakfast and in an unprecedented manner, vote for the clubs new captain; a decision usually left to late in the off-season. Prior to voting manager Buck hand picked a few veterans who fit the bill and let the players decide for themselves. It was a close vote, but in the end defender M_Pederson was selected as the clubs captain for the first half of season 3.

    Youth Academy
    G_Buffon 17 ita 19 1 1 1
    Miranda 18 bra 1 16 12 9
    S_Hofmann 17 ger 1 3 16 15
    S_McDonald 18 aus 1 6 13 15
Looking at the youth academy, it is still to early to tell, but numbers don’t lie. G_Buffon is on track to possibly being a starter early in his career. Turning some heads the following youngsters Miranda, S_Hofmann and S_McDonald without a doubt, will be something to look forward too. Regarding late bloomers,
    L_Vitale 17 ita 1 15 13 12
    S_Schaars 18 ned 1 11 16 3
    Bojan 17 esp 1 6 11 16
are obviously a wait and see, but pundits are optimistic that they will inevitably have a positive impact wherever they end-up calling home.

A look at Feyenoords key players for season 3
Keeper A_Muric the undisputed backbone will be an integral part of the starting eleven for season 3. The keeper was manager Bucks first signing after taking the helm at Feyenoord; no doubt that club brass are expecting big things from the keeper in what is to be his first full season at DeKuip.

As for defenders, captain M_Pederson is making his presence known, edging ever closer to top rated defender D_Hancko. The jump in skill level should occur sometime in the early part of the season and should boost the Feyenoords defensive line; if chemistry between the two gel, they will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with. As well newcomer J_Bagan, another player that will be gaining skill in the early stages of the season, will be providing much needed support. Finally defender J_Rasmussen who is creeping up the ladder as well and will be joining M_Pederson in skill sometime at mid season, will certainly be topping the defensive core for the upcoming season.

Regarding midfield, the clubs top notch halfback Melendo leads the way with decent skill, followed by E_Gutierrez and Q_Timber (possibly gaining skill at mid-season) two gritty midfielders that can easily switch to defending and attacking halfbacks respectively when needed. The much needed support will come from E_Elmas and S_Szymanski who a season ago were almost written off, but have rebounded and will be an important component in the scheme of thing at midfield; positive note: the two will also be moving up in skill at about the same time, providing the midfield line with a great deal of depth come mid-season.

The dynamic duo P_Goncalves and O_Idrissi will be the driving force at the front, the two are similarly skilled and should be able hold their own. However, the attacking line is in short supply and the possibility of adding some well needed support is something that manager Buck will be pondering come season 3.

    Managers corner
We caught up with manager Buck to ask him what his thoughts for the upcoming season are, as usual the gaffer was more than happy to oblige. -- surprisingly his response was not what we expected – “Mainly the squad has a great deal more experience, some of the younger lads have been impressive to say the least; expecting more of the same from them. The off-season signings will no doubt be a welcomed addition, the more depth, the better. Furthermore, the upcoming season will see many improvements along the lines of player stats, which is something we cherish here at Feyenoord, building from within. I've been asked on numerous occasions why we don’t invest more in the transfer market? My response to that question is simple, we don’t buy stars, we build and train them to be stars.”.

    The Xmas eve extravaganza Tournament...

The annual 32 team preseason competition will be getting underway this upcoming Monday, December the 18th. The competition will be a quick affair, lasting a total of 7 days. The round robin is scheduled to begin on the 18th and finish the 20th, round of sixteen will be played on the 21st, quarter and semi finals are slotted for the, 22nd and 23rd respectively with the final being held on 24th, Xmas eve. The format is straight forward, eight groups of four, the top two seeds in each group advance, while the bottom two enter a secondary sudden death contest.

The question lingering, will the Feyenoord’s star shine bright or will it fizzle away. The Tub boys from Division 2 have been placed in a very competitive group G and will be facing off against formidable foes, the likes of Premier league club Everton, Division 1 club Sporting Lisbon and culminating against Watford of the Championship. Surely a tough task at hand, but winning never comes easy. The matches will be played on neutral ground, giving fans and pundits alike a chance to see how their clubs fare against their peers from other leagues.

Manager Buck was upbeat, communicating that a few warm-up matches prior to the start of league play will be a boost to form and player morale adding my main concern is injuries and avoiding them.

The Xmas eve Tournament Round Robin Rewind...

      Preseason – game 1.

The tub boys get their tush handed to them in first match of the pre-season competition. Tough match for the tub boys who statistically played a decent match with 12 attempts at goal to Everton's 14. Friendly or not, no easy feat trying to matchup against Everton who held the ball for 61% of the time. The glimpses that the Tub boys did have, were not enough against someone of J_Pickford’s standing. The big question now is, how friendly were Everton? With 5 bookings to Feyenoords 1, it seems that the premier league club were out to maim their competition. Nonetheless, fun was had by all, spirits were good; the pregame cookie bake-off was a great success as P_Goncalves of Feyenoord took top prize with his chocolate chip peanut swirl recipe.

Much of the same is expected in they’re second match against Sporting Lisbon...

      Preseason – game 2.

A slightly better performance in match two of the round robin for the tub boys, surprisingly the underdogs were able to keep up with Sporting in attempts at goal and ball possession, giving the Feyenoord players much needed confidence. That is until the 58th minute, prior to the the onslaught. Three unanswered goals in 15 minutes was to come, blowing the match out of contention. Top performer O_Idrissi admitted after the match, that trying to score on Lisbon GK A_Lopes is like a toddler trying to reach for the cookie jar that's out of reach.

Watford it is for the third and final match of the preliminary round.

      Preseason – game 3.

A twist for game three, the scoreline was close but Watford were able to play their style of game and dominate from start to finish. K_Davis was the lone goal scorer in the 71st minute with a beauty of a kick that hit the post and took a lucky bounce into the net. With an impressive 3 loses in the round-robin the tub boys will be more than happy to be playing for the consolation plate. Manager Buck added a few words after the third match saying that “Winning any of the cups is still a few seasons away for Feyenoord”.

Good luck to the tub boys, they deserve it.
