MANCHESTER UNITED LOST THE FA CUP FINAL 3-0 TO NEWCASTLE UNITED
Leeds United surprised all by lifting the Premier League trophy ahead of Manchester City with a final day draw against favorites Manchester City. United settled for 3rd which to some is a poor effort, yet is clear improvement on last seasons tally and out put. Outten lamented the clubs discipline and fitness record countless times throughout the campaign, the club had the highest disciplinary record last term and the manager claimed United could only field his strongest squad around 60% of the time. That though, despite having impacts on selection even in the biggest of games, isn't an excuse the club ever use claims Outten and just insists better is required.
"We can't really give a fair and accurate grade on the whole for our campaign. We flatlined in parts, excelled in others, so we have to say we just have to aim to go and do better next term. No,sorry, will do better. We know it's a new era, new stadium regulations are going to hit us all, to add we have our first crop of youth talent to manage so it'll be a new ride this year in man ways. BUT, the one thing that stays the same is the expectation for the club to succeed in all aspects. The club are planning and working on transfers, whilst plotting the future developments. We will do better this season and we can hopefully announce some market movement soon."
"We improved domestically which is always the big one, the marathon of the league but well done to Leeds to who found something last season. If that doesn't act as motivation for the clubs this season, I don't know what will. We finished behind our 2 biggest rivals, we'll take that ball and run with it to go better.
The club have just found out their Champions League group and FA Cup first round opener. The reds play Roma, Atletico Madrid and Southampton in Europe whilst an away day at Tottenham awaits in the FA cup. When asked on his thoughts on the draws Outten said "Tough group, tough opener. Tough games, I look forward to it. Regardless who you play, no one will lye down for us so we expect tricky games, and we look forward to the challenges."
The new youth academy has dropped, United have 7 new players in their "class of season 3". Outten is curious with the intake, saying the club may need to invest in their youth infrastructure in future. "It's the first round and we welcome the new players, they're going to have to work hard to get to the level the club demands. No doubt they'll be knocking on the door soon wanting their opportunity, but unless they work hard and apply themselves correctly, we don't just give opportunities out. But, we look forward to seeing what they can for sure. But looking at everything, I think we can do better so its likely we will invest in our academy where possible given the nature and DNA of this club."
With the current first team, the club confirmed long standing player Christopher Nkunku will depart the club. The only player to lift the Premier League trophy for United leaves after 13 seasons and collecting 6 major trophies. Outten admitted Nkunku wanted a new challenge but leaves the club "a legend" for his services and longevity.
"We can only thank him for his efforts and services over the last 13 seasons. He's achieved everything and has been a catalyst in the team, one we structured everything around. He's given everything, and leaves with our best wishes. We had a feeling he wanted the move, we spoke to him around midseason, and the word was give us 'til the end of the year and then you can go, and form then his form skyrocketed. He's up there with some of the greats and legends of the club, as he deserves all the praise he gets."
The club will announce the deal in due course
