MANCHESTER UNITED FOUND THEMSELVES TOP OF THE LEAGUE ON MONDAY BUT AFTER A SHOCK DEFEAT TO BARNSLEY ON FRIDAY THEY END THE WEEK IN SECOND. UNITED STARTED THE WEEK WITH A 4-2 WIN OVER WEST HAM BEFORE STRUGGLING TO SEE OFF BURNLEY IN THE FA CUP ON WEDNESDAY. FRIDAY HOWEVER SAW A 1-0 DEFEAT.
United started brightly and 2 goals from Yasser Asprilla put red reds 2 up in 21 minutes, the first a quick strike from range on minutes, the second a glancing header after Karim Adeyemi picked out the cross. With no rea danger however, the reds quickly conceded 2 goals Karim Konate broke the offside trap and finished the first before Thiago Alcantara mustered a chance which came back off the bar, the Spaniard reacted quickest to stab home the equaliser all by the 26th minute. Game on, but United settled back down 9 minutes later Ricardo Calafiori scored a goal to rival any great winger after dancing round Aymeric Laporte and slotting home. United wrapped the scoring with 5minutes of the first half remaining, Nacho got to by line and his cut back was rifled home by Luis Diaz. United rung the changes and in what turned out to be an eventful second half, but nor further goals. Post match Outten said: "We did the job twice today and I'm not happy with us conceding 2 goals when we did. Thankfully I didn't need the hairdryer as the players sorted everything quickly. We utilised the game to get minutes in people too in light of our first half. It's a great win and we go top which I didn't expect but we need to build on this if we're to stay here."
FA Cup day Wednesday say United travel to Turf Moore, and a late Karim Adeyemi strike settled the tie. United not at the office at all and Burnley on another day would've won this one. But A late foul allowed Karim Adeyemi to break his barren run his free kick deflected off teh wall and caught out Chevalier in the Burnley goal. An unimpressed Outten cut a frost post match interview. "We just went top of the league and have targets to achieve in the cup and the players put out a performance like that? Shocking! We have no right going through and I've just let the lads know that was unacceptable today. I expect better, we're meant to be setting high standards at this cluband this was the complete opposite, and I now expect a better reaction on Friday."
Friday came and United played a very positive game but succumbed to a loss in Yorkshire. Jan Oblak was lucky to escape a red card when Boulaye Dia broke the United back line, the Slovakian beaten to the ball and brought down the Senegalese, fans wanted red but a covering defender spared his blushes. The resulting free kick from Felipe Anderson was well struck and left the 'keeper stranded and united a goal down. Despite probing and pushing United failed in their attempts to salvage something. Outten kept his cool but clearly was frustrated at full time. "Credit to Barsnely but how can we make the chances we did and not score? I don't know. We did the hard work to claw the points back at the top but we're now second. Today wasn't good enough despite the domination, they had the better chances of they few they had, maybe their element of quality rather than quantity was sufficient. Look it's a bad one today and I don't know what else to say"
