MANCHESTER UNITED PUT IN "THEIR WORST DISPLAY OF THE SEASON ON FRIDAY" ACCORDING TO STEVE OUTTEN, AFTER THE CLUB PUT IN TWO POSITIVE DISPLAYS MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY. A 4-0 OVER ASTON VILLA WAS PRECEEDED BY A WIN IN EUROPE AGAINST ARSENAL, BEFORE A REMATCH ON FRIDAY LEAD TO A 1-0 LOSS.

United missed Karim Adeymi for a second match but his presence seemed not to be missed with the more defensive players chipping in today. Matthijs de Ligt found himself with space in the box before firing in the opener on 25 minutes. Lisandro Martinez doubled the lead with cool strike from Yasser Aprillas knocked down header. Gavi added his 4th goal turning the defender before chipping Lafont neatly. Connor Smith added a surprise 4th goal with a stooping header late on. Post match Steve Outten looked pleased with the result. "This is what I've been expecting all season, goals and big performances. Today ticked all the boxes and I'm extremely pleased with today. We've got plenty of positives from the game and the players know this is is the standard of what we expect and we want this followed up. But yeah good day for us for sure and we'll build on this now".

Wednesday United looked to try and keep their Champions League hopes alive, away at Arsenal, United conceded with the first attack Josko Gvardiol lashed home Reece James' early cross. The stadium erupted only for the jubilation to be short lived. United returned the favour with Ricardo Calafioiri playing wingback today, showing great skill to turn his marker before striking in off the post. United looked to be getting more of the game but had to wait until the last quarter, a few tactical changes gave freedom for Gavi to break beyond the back line and rattle a cool strike off the bar, De Ligt the provider with a pin point ball over the defence. Karim Adeymi has had a dry season for goals but added the third, it took two attempts with James Trafford saving a one-on-one only to parry it back to the forward. Outten looked a relieved figure and issued a rallying call to the squad. "This is more like it, we're already on the back foot in Europe but this has given some hope. We stuck to the task and it felt like it won't be our day but once we gambled late on we got out rewards. Arsenal are no mugs so it's a big win and result. We play them again Friday, same place lets go again and keep this momentum going.

Fridays game however didn't go to plan. Both teams started very similar to Wednesday but Arsenal struck early with the only goal, Luiz Felipe smashed a thunderous long range effort just 5 minutes in. There after Arsenal controlled the tie and not much came from United. Outten was furious at full time and questioned the character of his team. "We did our homework, we knew Arsenal would stay the same and I thought we'd match their set up but for some reason the lads stayed in the changing room for large periods. We have no issue with this result, the better team won, but what does this say about this group of players. How can we show the performances we have this week, 2 displays one with dominance and one with professionalism, then this today. I feel we've gone backwards and given a harsh reality check as a team. We expect better and it's raised a few questions about some of the squad"
