  • More questions than answers

MANCHESTER UNITED MADE IT TWO STRAIGHT DEFEATS IN EUROPE AND SIT BOTTOM OF THEIR GROUP AFTER ANOTHER POOR RESULT THIS TIME AGAINST BAYERN MUNICH. UNITED THOUGHT THEY'D STARTED TO FIND SOME ANSWERS FOLLOWING LAST ROUNDS DEFEAT GIVEN TEHIR DOMESTIC FORM BUT AS WAS THE SITUATION LAST SEASON, THE CLUB HAVE STARTED VERY SLOWLY ONCE AGAIN.

Despite winning 4-0 on Monday, United have a lot of questions to answer, patchy form and a lack of cutting edge is clearly costing them when it counts. On Monday it seemed positive with a comprehensive result and performance. Nacho earned a rare start and bagged a double in the first half, the first a self made goal fighting through the Sheffield defence, the second and unmarked header from Pedro Porros corner on 23 minutes. The Spaniard turned provider to his fellow countryman Gavi just before the break. Nacho got forward and pulled a passed back to Gavi who sept in goal number 3. Luis Diaz made it 4 for the season in the second half, the ref awarded a freekick rather than a penalty for a foul Gabriel Moscardo, the Colombian made no mistake with a thunderous effort. It may have been more but once again, United had a penalty appeal turned down the club settled for 4. Outten said after the game "What turned out to be an action paced game we managed to show our true colours, clean sheets and big performances made this possible. We got minutes into the players who needed it and this could be an important game for many factors. We're doing OK with our recent form, but we know we can and need to do better still as this team has a lot of ability and where better to show it than against Munich".

It was Bayern Munich though come Wednesday, who stood tall after what turned out to to be a one sided game. Bayern played a cautious game but found themselves two up within 21 minutes. Nico Paz nodded home Xavi Simmons deflected cross in the first 3 minutes, before a goal from Willy Gnonto settled the tie early. A fortuitous finish from Benjamin Sesko's cross compounding the misery for United. United did make many chances but another case of poor finishing and fine goalkeeping was the difference. A furious Steve Outten laid into his squad post match. "Monday we showed many positives, today we played at home, our first home tie in Europe and showed the complete opposite of what we did earlier in the week. Sloppy defensiveness, poor finishing and I have to say jan Oblak has let us down today. As captain, he's let the side down letting in two easy efforts. I can't say it's just one of those days as it's put us in a precarious position and a bit like last year we're looking down the barrel. Fact is, no goals in the first two games is abysmal and I expect a huge reaction in the coming games. We can't keep asking questions of ourselves and have no response. We have to do better!"
