  • Frustrating week for United

MANCHESTER UNITED LOOKED TO BUILD ON A PERFECT WEEK 2 BUT CAN ONLY DESCRIBE THIS WEEK AS A MIXED BAG. A HARD FOUGHT WIN AGAINST WOLVES ON MONDAY FOLLOWING A 4 GOAL DRUBBING BY REAL MADRID MID WEEK, AND WITH TEH RED HOPING FOR A REACTION ON FRIDAY, THE CLUB STUTTERED TO A 1-1 DRAW AGAINST LEICESTER.

Wolves started the season brightly and started well at Molyineux opening the scoring within 5 minutes Joao Pedro worked himself some space past Matthijs De Ligt and rifled home his effort to put the newly promoted club in dreamland. United responded through Gavi on 24 minutes, the Spaniard turned his marker on the edge of the box and curled a quick effort into the corner. The second half saw United settle the tie with Luis Diaz also bagging a solo effort, Aaron Ramdale did get a hand to the shot but it wasn't enough to keep the ball out. United saw out the game but Outten wasn't happy post match. "We're pleased to take 3 points but this was a more difficult result than it should've been. Wolves did play well and that was down to us not being clinical enough with our chances but also starting slow as to why we didn't make more of the game. We need to do better, last week I thought we'd turned a corner but maybe the lads got complacent and we must improve.

Wednesday united ventured to the Bernabeau. United suffered a huge defeat but Outten felt the game was decided in the second half. Mbappe scored the opener within the first 30 minutes but the reds were denied a clear penalty which riled the United bench. As a reaction United went gung-ho and suited a cagey Real Madrid, As United threw men forward it allowed Space for Nico Williams to make it 2-0. David Alaba found himself up the pitch and cutely finished the third. Mbapped added his second and Madrids 4th late on, Oblak almost kept it out but the ref signalled a goal. Another poor start in Europe but a frustrated Steve Outten wasn't too down hearted. "We played well and was unlucky overall. Yes we conceded 4 but Madrid got lucky. We picked moments against them and at 1 down we was confident and had we been given the penalty we deserved you're looking at a different game. Yes we let in three late on but when the refs against you like today it's irrelevant. We know we need a response and that's what will happen. But the officials cost us again against Madrid."

United hosted Leicester on Friday and there was a positive aura around Old Trafford believing three points was possible and it should've been. United out the blocks scored from the kick off, Adeyemi playing the kick to Gavi, wasn't dealt with by indecisive defenders and Luis Diaz struck first time to make it a dream start. United dominated the match and couldn't find a second. But former red Anthony Elanga broke the offside trap latching onto Kasper Dolbergs slide rule pass and made mistake wis effort, despite the late attempts the reds couldn't get the winner. Outten looked a defeated figure in his post match conference and kept predominantly to short answers. He didn't make much of statement but used terms as wasteful, naive and complacent to describe the game as United sit 5 points behind City already.
