  • Red Bull Salzburg Completes Off Season Plans

Red Bull Salzburg announced today that they’ve completed their off-season expansion plans. All of the earlier announced plans will go forward but some of plans were amended because of budget concerns.

Stadium Expansion: RBS will expand Red Bull Stadium for the second consecutive season. The original plan was to add 10,000 seats, but expansion was scaled by to 5,000 to allow other budget items to go forward. “We know that will we will take a hit on revenue this season,” said manager Dave Thacker, “but we need to build up our academy and cutting back the seats will allows us to do that. We feel that we will have revenue next season to continue the expansion.” Club supporters were disappointed by the decisions, but as one long term member of the supporters Club said, “We’ve been P18 for the last two season, how much could we really grow the stadium.”

Academy Updates: There has been a flurry activity at the Red Bull Academy, Salzburg is continuing to build up the staff and bring in new players.

An additional scout has been hired, and he has already found his first player. The official announcement won’t happen for a few says, but the the academy insiders report that a new forward will be joining the current academy forwards Ruiz and Kuyt.

Salzburg’s current scout has found a new attacking midfielder. This have been a weak spot in Salzburg’s lineup. Travis Pasnik filled slot last season, and did well, but there has been discussion about moving him to forward to put a triple threat attack with Koita and Nene.

The additional players will bring the academy enrollment to 11 players, just one of the enrollment cap. Because there are now two players coming in each season, at least one of the current players will need to be promoted. There will be 7 players eligible next season so there will be come interesting discussion next about who moves up.

A new coach has been hired and academy training time is expected to be increased nearly 33%. Salzburg nearly hired a coach last season but the revenue just fell short. This off season the coach hiring was second only to hiring another scout, and the stadium expansion was trimmed back.

Salzburg continues to lean in to the developing their own players instead of working through the transfers. It’s hoped that within two season, the club will reap the benefits.
