  • Sheffield United Promotes 3 Academy Players

Interim Sheffield United manager Dave Thacker announced today that three Blades Academy players will be brought up to the main squad for next season. The move was widely expected as several player have announced that they are retiring or leaving football after last season. Each of the players will be 20 years old before the start of the next season and have had 2 years of time at the Blades Academy. All three players are expected to take most of their minutes as substitutes during the Blade’s return to the Premiership.

Dejan Lovren, Serbia: Lovren will be playing midfield and attacking midfield for Sheffield United. The club has not been using an attacking midfielder during last season’s 2nd place season, but this promotion may show a change in strategy. Lovren will take the place of H_Akpan, who is leaving football.

Digba Drogba: Is an Ivorian striker that is likely to be mixed in with the Blade’s veteran front line. He will be replacing Mauride, who logged zero minutes on the pitch this last season. Club insiders expect he will have a bigger role than many first year players.

Cameron Jerome: Jerome is an English striker and will join Drogba as the start of as the core of a rebuilt Sheffield Untied front line. His know as a bit of firebrand, and the coaching system is working with him to reduce his fouls. “Fantastic shot, but can be a liability with red cards” is the take on Jerome’s skill. He will split time tie Muller, who is expected to retire at the end of next season.

Thacker has privately been reluctant to bring 20 year old from the Red Bull Salzburg Academy, his primary club. However the state of the balance sheet and the amount of players leaving the roster gave him no choice.

    Words: 303 for Sheffield Untied.
