  • Barnsley Board Worried

SOME BIG NEWS has come out of the FFO world in the past 24 hours with two giant clubs have become available at the end of the season. Rumours are circling that Barnsley boss, Harris, could be tempted to apply for one of them. As Harris draws near the end of his fourth season in charge of Barnsley, it is with great worry that he applies and either gets the job or if he doesn't get the job - will he react like last time which saw a resignation and then two short stays at other clubs? The Barnsley board are anxious as they don't want their manager applying elsewhere, they were reluctant for him to take on the caretaker reigns at Bayer Leverkusen, where Harris has taken the side from absolute rock bottom to on the verge of catching Sporting Lisbon who sit just outside the automatic relegation spots. This achievement, coupled with Barnsley yet again hoping to finish in the top 16 of the English Premier League, could be enough for the boards of Barcelona or Bayern Munich to at least take his application seriously.

A brief press statement was sent to major publications earlier this morning from the board of Barnsley.

"To address the rumours of Harris applying elsewhere, at this stage, this is all they simply are. Rumours. We sat down with Ant last night to discuss next season's plan including the exciting prospect of Savic being part of the side all season and the rebuild of the clubs ageing defence. He is 100% committed to our club and we are 100% committed to him".

Harris and his representatives have been asked for their comments.

OVER THE WEEKEND the fears of the Barnsley faithful came true as Harris was announced as the new Bayern Munich manager for next season. A mixed reaction from the club, with many now angry that Harris will leave them after having said that he was in it for the long term. Harris released a brief press statement earlier today.

"Thank you all for attending. I have loved every minute as Barnsley boss. There are still two games to go and I am determined to have us finish as high as possible. I haven't looked at the situation in Germany, as my mind is fully focussed on the job at hand here. I do understand that there will be a lot of disappointment, but also perhaps some relief. There wouldn't have been many jobs that would have made me think twice about, but the Bayern job is one I couldn't at least pop my name in. I am honoured to have led Barnsley for four season, as I previously said, I have relished it. It is one of the jobs that made me fall back in love with managing. A team that I even glance a sideways eye at for results in football outside of the FFO world. I want to thank the players I have had over my time at the club, the board and my backroom staff...and last and most importantly the backing I have had from the fans from day one. Barnsley will always be a part of me! Let's beat Leeds and then kick Blackburn's fVcking ass!"

The Barnsley board today have also discussed who they would like to replace Harris as their manager. There is a very high chance that Harris will remain at the club in a caretaker capacity. However, this is yet to be confirmed. The Barnsley board will be looking for a list of candidates who may be able to continue the clubs rise in the Premier league. The board will be hoping That a lot of current managers will be excited by the prospect of building on the foundation that is currently at the club. Although the board will be really hoping that somebody takes the reigns the matter of a fact is the the team is aging and a lot of work needs to be done, particularly in the defensive department with Ismailly turning an ancient 35. There are some really promising talented players at the club, including Doucoure and Araujo. Alongside the formidable Dia and Mitoma, and one of the best young keepers in the game Maximiano, may be enough to tempt someoneā€¦.
