    Premiership Match 1

    Arsenal 2 - 0 Everton

Everton have begun there season in the Premiership under the charge of new manager Mike Mcleod, previously of Red Bull Leipzig of the EFL. And this is completely different challenge in front of him which didn't start off well with a loss, but all is not lost with this performance, having to workout new managers to him, and obviously time will tell why he studies others managers management ways.

But back to the game, Arsenal went ahead quickly with two goals within nine minutes which was a terrible start but the Toffees slowly settled down with a change in tactics, then disaster struck with the referee showing a staight red card to Everton striker Edouard thinking that was the correct punishment for a lunging tackle on Arsenal player Correa just before half time.

Everton survived the second half without conceding a third goal which in itself is very encouraging and with both goalkeepers making 11 saves each, albeit Arsenal had more shots but Everton had only 12 on target and 11 were saved is also pleasing.

    FA Cup 1st Round

    Everton 2 - 0 Huddersfield Town

Everton faced Huddersfield Town from the Championship in a tricky FA cup first round tie at Goodison Park but came through a good test with a win after there loss to Arsenal a few days earlier in the Premiership. Two goals from new signing Gyokeres both in the first half settled this tie but it wasn't as easy a the result suggests. Huddersfield Town played there part in this entertaining affair keeping Evertons goalkeeper Pickford very busy throughout the game.

      Premiership Match 2

      Everton 1 - 1 Chelsea

Everton's first home game in the Premiership welcomed Chelsea, who also had lost there first match to Manchester United, so both teams were looking for there first win. Both sides had a similar set up to start and it was Chelsea who had the ball in the net within minutes only to be ruled out, much to the relief of the home crowd, for offside. Chelsea were the most dangerous pinning Everton inthere own half but it was against the run of play when Dan Burns, the Toffees defender , hit a perfect strike to beat Chelsea keeper Unai Simon to go in at half time with a one goal lead.
Chelsea made changes early in the second half which worked a treat with an equaliser coming from substitute Sane to draw level much to the disappointment of the home crowd and with both sides pushing for a winner there were chances for both sides but it remained all square at the final whistle.

        Premiership Match 3

        Sheffield Wednesday 0 - 1 Everton

Everton record there first win in the Premiership at the expense of Sheffield Wednesday by a solitary goal from striker Bowen late on in the second half. The Owls started strongly testing the Toffees keeper Pickford from the start, who has been in tremendous form so far this season but Everton held firm. Halfway into the first half Everton survived a VAR scare after a corner in which the usual shirt pulling incidents happen but it was decided it wasn't enough for a penalty.
The second half began with Everton being patient on the ball keeping possession looking for an opening but the Owls looked comfortable in defence and it seemed it was heading for a bore draw. Everton made a substitution with Bowen coming on for Moreno and within minutes Bowen was on the end of a superb through ball from midfielder Kampl to slide a shot past the oncoming Wednesday keeper Gunn to take the lead. With just 15 minutes left, Everton just had to hold on to the lead which they did against an attacking home side to take all three points.
This took Everton up to eleventh place but a long way to go.

          FA Cup Second Round

          Everton 1 - 0 Sunderland

Everton made it through to the third round of the FA Cup where they will face an away trip to Oakwell Stadium home of Barnsley FC after squeezing past Sunderland by a solitary goal. It was a game which Everton and Sunderland shared the possession stats but chances were poorly lacking. The first half passed very slowly for the home fans with a few half chances that went begging and this trend followed into the second half until Bowen struck the bar with a well taken volley only to see it bounce down onto the goal line and with the home crowd appealing for a goal the VAR officials decided that it had crossed the line to give the Toffees the lead. This obviously spurred Sunderland into an attacking mode but Everton held firm to take the win.

            Everton 1 - 1 Sheffield United

An opportunity missed here for Everton to take all 3 points after a dominating performance against Sheffield United. After taking the lead after two minutes, with midfielder Zielinski scoring a well taken volley, the Toffees eased back most likely because of the shock of scoring so early in the match, so much so that the Blades equalised through Bellotti to level the score after ten minutes gone.
Everton had most of the possession but lacked any ideas how to breakdown the Sheffield defence and also with the Blades keeper, Gulacsi, in fine form it became a war of attrition and a point is a point at the end of the day.

              Manchester City 3 - 1 Everton

Everton's visit to the Etihad Stadium didn't end to well, as expected, with Man City on a four game unbeaten run, the Toffees knew it would be a tough task to get anything from them and that proved correct. Everton actually started the game quite well putting up with City's fouls to make Ederson earn his salary with a few half chances for Gyokeres but to no avail. Then halfway through the first half Harry Kane picked up his second yellow card and was duly sent off to the cheers of the Everton faithful and it was all square at the midway stage.
Could Everton get something out of this game!
But the Citizens, as they can even down to ten men, started to take control and 10 minutes in they scored with Silva taking his chance perfectly. Everton changed there lineup bringing on forward Edouard for defender Cedric to work up front with Gyokeres, but little or no impact was made even against 10 men and the second goal from City soon came with Stones finishing off a decent move. A third soon followed through Rensch to take the points and just a small consolation of a penalty for Everton scored by Gyokeres to round off a miserable afternoon for the away side.

                DPT Round 1 Group Game

                Everton 2 - 1 Rangers

A good start to Everton's first group game in the DPT Cup with a home win against Rangers, but it actually wasn't the best start on the pitch conceding a 6th minute penalty when the Toffees keeper Pickford brought down midfielder Fraser and which it was duly dispatched by Hlozek. Not the best start along with Everton defender Tierney coming off injured to be replaced by Cedric just ten minutes later so the home side needed to steady the ship. Everton slowly worked there way back into the match and had the better chances leading up to the break but no goals. Then an incident just into the start of the second half, which helped change the way this game was heading, was the sending off of the Rangers defender Gunther for collecting two yellows.
Everton then began knocking on the door of the Rangers goal but where still being repelled by the resolute Rangers defence and the home crowd were wondering if they would be celebrating a home goal anytime today. But in the 70th minute a double substitution was made for both Everton forwards, Gyokeres and Bowen, coming on for Moreno and Eduoard, which proved to be godsend for the home fans when not 5 minutes later Gyokeres hit two well taken goals to stun the away fans to take the lead with just a few minutes left. And this is how it ended much to the surprise of the travelling fans wondering how it changed around so quickly.

                  Everton 1 - 2 Liverpool

A packed house for the Mersyside derby at Goodison Park saw the Reds take all 3 points in a game that Everton felt they should have got something out of the game but not to be. Not much happened to begin the first half both teams looking for an opening, midfielder for Everton, Zielinski, went off injured, then Liverpool struck the first blow with Luiz scoring and pressuring for a second but Pickford was in good form until he picked up a knock to be replaced by Cragno and minutes later he was picking the ball out of the net as Liverpool went two goals ahead just before half time.
Everton came out of the blocks straight away catching Liverpool on the back foot with midfielder Zaniolo beating the offside trap to score past Onana, this brought the home fans to life and got behind the team to urge them forward looking for the equaliser. The clock was running down and Everton where pushing hard and to there disappointment had a goal ruled out for a tight offside decision and with minutes to go missed a big chance to draw level but Eduoard couldn't hit the target from a tight angle.

                      DPT Round 2 Group Game

                      Brighton 0 - 3 Everton

Everton were looking to gain some confidence after the mauling from Leeds Utd in the Premiership and it went there way in the second game in the DPT competition away to Brighton Hove Albion. In an incident packed 5 minutes there were 2 goals from Everton's striker Edouard and 2 bookings for Umtiti and Zielinski to begin this frenetic start and Everton's defender Stephens also found himself in the referee's book after fifteen. The Seagulls although stunned by this start from Everton slowly started to make inroads through the Toffees midfield and chances were being created with Haller squandering a couple of efforts in front of goal. As half time approached Pickford signalled to the bench that he couldn't continue and was substituted for the second half.
But the away side wrapped the game up when a third was scored five minutes after the restart by Bellarabi to take a three goal lead and take a second group game.

                        Everton 2 - 1 Brighton

Everton and Brighton meet again after the DPT group game and this time in the Premiership at Goodison Park with Everton looking for a double over the Seagulls. Brighton started very brightly in the early stages of the half with Pickford being the most busiest with Brighton having a couple of half chances. Everton slowly found a way into the game with a well taken free kick just missing the target but then against the run of play struck first with a well taken goal from Edouard after picking up a loose ball in midfield and striking it perfectly past Brighton's keeper Sanchez. It was then Brighton's turn to equalise only to see the shot hitting Pickfords upright and bounce safely away just before half time. Brighton started where they left off making Pickford earn his wages with at least three gilt edged chances which on another day would have found the back of the net.
The game went through a quiet period for both sides looking for openings with the visitors making two substitutions and they were rewarded for there persistence equalising through Bendnarek with a shot coming off the post to draw level. But right at the end a penalty was awarded to the home side in the 86th minute after Brighton's forward Haller was adjudged to have fouled in the area which Bowen duly dispatched to take all three points breaking the away fans hearts right at the death.

                          Aston Villa 0 - 1 Everton

This was a smash and grab raid from Everton at Villa Park who themselves have been on the wrong end of some tough results. Villa dominated the early stages of the first half with Pickford the busiest of the two goalkeepers and while Everton who weren't actually holding on just played there game building up there confidence and working out a way to create a breakthrough.
The second half saw Villa pick up the pace looking for the first goal of the game but it was the Toffees who against the run of play took there chance with Gyokeres making a run unchallenged through the Villa midfield to fire in a beautiful strike to take the lead in the 70th minute. Time was running out for the home side but they still couldn't find that crucial chance to draw level.

                            Crystal Palace 1 - 1 Everton

A disappointing draw from Everton's perspective after leading for most of the game after going in front just before half time through midfielder MOM Zielinski, getting on the end of a great through ball from Zaniolo to slide it past the oncoming Palace keeper Livakovic.
The Eagles came out in the second half looking for the equaliser and came close quite a few times and it was looking as if they just couldn't put the ball into the back of the net and time was running out for them. Everton's defence in particular Marcao and Stephens were in majestic form turning back Palace's efforts and were fully deserving of the 3 points BUT not guaranteed and the home team never say die attitude eventually paid off in the 89th minute to level up.

                              Barnsley 2 - 0 Everton

Both sides fielded the same formation and tactics and it was a big mistake for Everton being on the end of a two nil loss. At the start both sides went for each other and both had chances early on but without making the most of there half chances Everton conceded on the halfway mark with a well taken goal from Barnsley striker Dia. Everton decided to change there tactics and have a go at the home side but yet again with the combination of missing the target, Barnsley keeper Maximiano have a "nothing gets past me day" the Toffees could't buy a goal. Then with Barnsley coming out for the second half and within five minutes scoring a second from Delort while Everton were still dreaming of scoring it was over. You could literally see the fight go out the players of Everton and they still didn't make a dent in the Barnsley defence and Barnsley headed into the fourth round without too much trouble.
