Scorers

Windebank asked for a reaction and some pride in his pre-match press conference and the Lions certainly delivered that at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland conceded tactical advantage with their passing tactic being negated by Milllwall's Counter Attacking tactic.
Millwall dominated the opening 16th minute seeing Aidomo Emakhu's 8th minute effort hit the post and go out and Leno being equal to the numerous shots being fired at him. In the 16th minute the Lions broke the deadlock when Casper De Norre jink in field before spotting the run of Simon Terodde who made no mistake with a scorcher of a shot to give the Lions the lead.
Sunderland switched to counter attacking and in the next real action of the game were back level in the 21st minute with a goal from Xhaka her performed a spectacular bicycle kick to send the home fans wild.
With both sides now counter attacking the game petered out and the half time whistle went with the score 1-1.
Millwall came out with real intent for the 2nd half and were putting heavy pressure on the Sunderland goal in the 50th minute Simon Terodde found Romain Esse with a precision throw but Leno was able to tip the great effort around the post for a Millwall corner. With the Monk Chant raining down from the away end Kyle Walker swung in a great corner that Leno misjudged and up popped Aidomo Emakhu to sweep the ball into the back of the net to give the Lions a deserved lead.
The celebrations were short lived as yet again the Black Cats struck back quickly as eight minutes later they were level when Evanilson found Modeste with a great pass that Modeste dispatched into the Lions net with ease and the score was 2-2.
Despite both sides trying very hard to get the three points neither side could find the winning goal and the referee brought an end to an exciting game with both sides sharing the points.
Millwall had 54% possession with the Black cats creating 11 chances to the Lions 10 and the Lions having 4 shots on target to the Black Cats 3.
Windebank's Post Match Comments
That was a much better performance by the players today but it is very frustrating that we could not hold onto a lead. However that's four points from a possible six on the road which is a great return and would greatly help our season if we could start winning games at home.
We are getting results against teams that have more quality and experience on paper so I cannot grumble too much but I have to find the formula to start getting results at the Den or the fanbase are going to turn toxic as they don't like seeing their team losing at the Den.
