    Match Day 12

Lions Get Credible Point At Stadium Of Light

    Sunderland 2 Millwall 2

    Scorers

    Simon Terodde (16th Minute)
    Xhaka (21st Minute)
    Aidomo Emakhu (50th Minute)
    Modeste (58th Minute)

Windebank asked for a reaction and some pride in his pre-match press conference and the Lions certainly delivered that at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland conceded tactical advantage with their passing tactic being negated by Milllwall's Counter Attacking tactic.

Millwall dominated the opening 16th minute seeing Aidomo Emakhu's 8th minute effort hit the post and go out and Leno being equal to the numerous shots being fired at him. In the 16th minute the Lions broke the deadlock when Casper De Norre jink in field before spotting the run of Simon Terodde who made no mistake with a scorcher of a shot to give the Lions the lead.

Sunderland switched to counter attacking and in the next real action of the game were back level in the 21st minute with a goal from Xhaka her performed a spectacular bicycle kick to send the home fans wild.

With both sides now counter attacking the game petered out and the half time whistle went with the score 1-1.

Millwall came out with real intent for the 2nd half and were putting heavy pressure on the Sunderland goal in the 50th minute Simon Terodde found Romain Esse with a precision throw but Leno was able to tip the great effort around the post for a Millwall corner. With the Monk Chant raining down from the away end Kyle Walker swung in a great corner that Leno misjudged and up popped Aidomo Emakhu to sweep the ball into the back of the net to give the Lions a deserved lead.

The celebrations were short lived as yet again the Black Cats struck back quickly as eight minutes later they were level when Evanilson found Modeste with a great pass that Modeste dispatched into the Lions net with ease and the score was 2-2.

Despite both sides trying very hard to get the three points neither side could find the winning goal and the referee brought an end to an exciting game with both sides sharing the points.

Millwall had 54% possession with the Black cats creating 11 chances to the Lions 10 and the Lions having 4 shots on target to the Black Cats 3.

    Windebank's Post Match Comments

That was a much better performance by the players today but it is very frustrating that we could not hold onto a lead. However that's four points from a possible six on the road which is a great return and would greatly help our season if we could start winning games at home.

We are getting results against teams that have more quality and experience on paper so I cannot grumble too much but I have to find the formula to start getting results at the Den or the fanbase are going to turn toxic as they don't like seeing their team losing at the Den.

      Match Day 13

Lions Players Applauded Off Pitch Despite 3rd Straight Home Defeat

      Millwall 2 Watford 3

      Scorers

      Louza (4th Minute)
      Under (31st Minute)
      Embolo (33rd Minute)
      Dane Scarlett (61st Minute)
      Ander Guevara (70th Minute)

Watford arrived at The Den looking to pile more pressure on Windebank and become yet another team to walk away from The Den with all three points.

Windebank setup with a very attacking formation and tactic with the Hornets setting up to play on the Counter Attack.

The Hornets scored with the first action of the game when Louza connected with a diving header from a cross in the 4th minute.

The Millwall players head did not drop and they started to work their way back into the game with the Watford players getting booked for persistent fouling. In the 17th minute Embolo should have been sent off when Marvelous Nakamba broke through the Watford defence and with only the keeper to beat Embolo hacked the Millwall player down. Boos surrounded the Stadium when only a yellow card was shown. The boos turned to disbelief when the resulting free kick saw Dane Scarlett's effort thumped off the post and out of play.

Another diabolical decision cost Millwall again in the 31st minute when Cleverly found an offside Under with a long throw but the linesman kept his flag down and Under made it 2-0.

The Millwall fans were incandescent but that turned into rage two minutes later Kamara found a player that should not have been on the pitch with Embolo making no mistake to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead.

Watford had the better of the remaining of the half with the Lions looking frustrated and the Fans baying for the officials blood due to the outrageous decisions they were seeing on the pitch. The FFO officials cowardly waiting for security to walk them off the pitch after blowing the half time whistle.

Millwall came out with real intent in the 2nd half and went for the Hornets throat with Watford switching to attacking to try and stem the Lions attack. In the 61st minute Millwall's pressure got the goal it so richly deserved when Kabadayi found Dane Scarlett who hammered the ball into the top corner to make the score 3-1.

In the 70th minute Romain Esse found Ander Guevara with a glorious 60 yard pass with Ander rounding the keeper before pushing the ball into the back of the net from a very tight angle to make the score 3-2.

Watford switched back to Counter Attacking as Millwall searched for a 3rd goal to try and get something from the game and try not to slump to a 3rd straight home defeat.

Despite a gigantic effort from Millwall and the officials sending off Balbuena in the 91st minute Romain Esse had a great chance to pull the great escape off but his 93rd minute lob landed on the top of the net.

Watford had 52% possession creating 20 chances to the Lions 13 with the Hornets having 11 shots on target to the Lions 7.

      Windebank's Post Match Comments

I would like to thank the fans for staying with the players today despite witnessing our 3rd straight home defeat in a row. I think they can see what we are trying to achieve here and that the players are giving their all despite coming up short at times.

The players gave it a real go today and it was a shame we could not get that important 3rd goal but I am convinced I will find the formula to make The Den a place the away teams will fear coming to.
