Sheffield United are a yo yo Club that are always too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League.

Currently managed by caretaker Dave Thacker the Blades fans will be hoping for a change of fortunes.

There are problems storing up at Bramall Lane though with eight first team players 31 years of age and over and unless Dave can conjure up some magic Sheffield United could soon become a Club in deep trouble.

There is some good news for Blades fans as their have the 14th ranked highest academy squad value but observers feel they missed a trick not investing in any academy staff during the close season especially a coach.

Real Sociedad bounced back to EFL 1 at the first attempt with a great 2nd place finish in EFL 2 last season.

Currently without a full-time manager it will be interesting to see what direction the Spanish Club will take if and when a full time manager is found.

Following the 2nd Bonanza in charge caretaker manager Windebank has finally reduced the very old team he inherited and has set the foundations to be very competitive in the not to distance future.

Littered with 20 year olds and a sprinkling of quality the Leipzig fans will be hoping they will be seeing the likes of PSG and Real Madrid at the Red Bull Arena in the next season or two.

With two scouts and a coach, Windebank or the next full time manager will be looking to get a 2nd coach at the end of the season to fully utilise with 30 weeks training their academy.

Maybe a season or two off of getting a full time manager Windebank has made them a far more attractive prospect than when the Leipzig Board got him through the door.

Sevilla had a remarkable season finishing 9th in EFL 1 which is testament to Alfredo Gandarlos managerial skills.

Alfredo will have to start pulling on those skills as Sevilla is very ageing squad with twelve of their top players being 31 years of age or older.

A couple of players have been called up from the academy as Alfredo starts to bleed them into the first team but with no investment in academy staff and only five players remaining in the academy only receiving 20 weeks training there is a real concern at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan that last season could be the pinnacle for Sevilla for the foreseeable future.

Marseille despite winning EFL 2 last season were a Club in disarray after losing a whole host of players in the preseason due to contract breaches around minutes and players being 31 years of age and older with zero sale value.

Then the Orange Velodrome heard the news that James Bucknall was making a return to football management with his destination being France.

Intrigue turned to optimism as a great bonanza sees Marseille now with a set vison and a team full of youth including the great auction pickup of 19 year old Brazilian defender Beraldo.

Not only has James rebuilt the squad he has also found funds to purchase their first academy coach.

With seven players being 20 years of age and younger the future looks very bright in Marseille and the fans are hoping that James will build a lasting legacy for their Club.

The hope is James can maintain Marseilles EFL 1 status to collect the staying up £25m bonus and keep the Club on a upward trajectory.

The Bluebirds have been remarkable since being elected to FFO in season 3. Under the stewardship of Matt Rose finishing 2nd in the Championship to achieve promotion to the Premier League in Cardiff City first season.

That was followed up by a respectable 15th place finish in the Premier League last season.

The lowest Premier League Club on the wealth list the Bluebirds could struggle to reach the highs of last season.

With five players 31 years of age or older and no investment in the academy Matt looks like he will be using his skills in the transfer market and FFO auction to help make Cardiff City a successful Premier League Club.

Feyenoord lasted only one season in EFL 1 and acted swiftly by securing Ray Wallace as caretaker manager.

Fans of the De Kuip were ecstatic and are optimistic for the future following a bonanza that has seen the squad age being reduced and investment being allocated to the academy in the shape of their first coach and scout.

Whether there is enough quality for Feyenoord to bounce back to the promise land at the first attempt only time will tell but whenever a full time manager is found for the Dutch outfit the building blocks are in place for a rosy future.

Caretaker manager Neil Kirby nearly bounced back to the Premier League at the first attempt but fell short losing out in the Play-offs following a 4th place finish.

A squad with no players over the age of 31 years of age Neil shocked the FFO world when he invested £45m in a coach and scout as he tries to build lasting foundations to attract a full time manager.

Whether the Hatters remain so well aged when their manager loves to do three deals at least a week is yet to be seen, but one thing is for sure Luton fans know they will have a great chance of promotion while Neil remains in charge.

Managerless Napoli finished a respectable 15th last season and with Tony Ayre caretaking the Napoli fans are optimistic they can achieve that at least again this season.

Tony has done well reducing the age of the squad and also purchased Napoli’s 2nd coach but competing in the richest league in FFO is going to be a struggle with a serious lack of fire power up front.

This has all the markings of a very tough season at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Middlesbrough have had a very quiet close season despite finishing 19th in the Championship last season.

Cliff Coates has the 10th highest bank balance and fans at the Riverside Stadium are hopeful that this is put to good use when the season kicks off.

With only three players 31 years of age or over and one player called up from the academy in the close season Cliff appears very happy with his squad going into season 5.

With 75th ranked Stadium and no investment in the Academy the Middlesbrough fans wait with baited breath to see what direction Cliff will be taking the Club in over the next few seasons.

Thom Hughes has had a very quiet close season with no deal completed in the transfer market.

There is a little bit of concern gathering at the tiny Estadio da Luz where four players are 32 years of age with three of them being midfielders.

With no investment in the Stadium, academy or academy staff the Benfica fans are left with a huge amount of questions of what direction their Club is going.

They will, however, be hoping that there is an improvement on last season 13th place finish at the very least.

Monaco are under the guidance of caretaker manager Mike Bridge who will be doing everything in his power to maintain the French Clubs long standing EFL 1 status.

Mike has done a lot of deals for the French Club and has reduced age quite well with now only four players 31 years of age or over.

This could be a tough season for Monaco but they should maintain their EFL 1 status and be reshaped by Mike before they are able to secure a full time manager.

Steve Outten performed wonders last season getting Shakhtar Donetsk to the EFL 2 play offs with a remarkable 6th place finish.

This was achieved with limited resources for a Club that have been in FFO for only two seasons.

Steve is building lasting foundations for when a full time manager is secured making a huge investment into the Stadium and bringing in their first coach and scout to try and bring quality players through their youth system.

FC Porto missed out on promotion despite finishing 5th as they could not win the play-offs.

Caretaker manager Johnboy added 10k seats to the Estadio do Dragao and bought two players from the free list and other than a loan FC Porto will be hoping to gain one of the automatic promotion places this season.

This could be a tough ask with a couple of giant Clubs in EFL 2 but Johnboy knows how to win games and the Porto faithful will be hoping he can sprinkle some magic dust on them this season.

An established Championship side who accomplished their best finish last season just narrowly missing out on the play-offs in 7th place.

Joe Brown purchased four players up from the free market and promoted a few quality prospects from their academy.

As of yet no funds have been invested in academy staff and with four players 31 years of age and older it will be interesting to see if Joe diverts funds to this area of the Club after season 5.

Frank Deeming will be looking for a vast improvement this season despite making obe major signing in the close season.

The Tractors Boys are delighted that Wolfsburg manager Jason Hopton is caretaking them and expect to see a better performance in the League than their previous two seasons in FFO.

A nicely aged squad with a strong defence Jason will be disappointed if he does not guide the Tractor Boys to at least the play-offs.

Ipswich Town are still to invest in academy staff despite having quite a good academy squad.

Jason will probably sort this next close season if a full time manager cannot be found.

Serial transfer addict Sam Bradwell has moved to Basque Club Athletic Bilboa to try and ween himself off his addiction.

With no first team players in the dreaded 31 years of age plus bracket Sam has decided to jump on the academy route and hired Bilboa’s first coach.

This is a surprising move from the much travelled Bradwell as he spent all of last season mocking the Clubs that invested so heavily in their youth production.

The whole of FFO are holding their breath to see if Sam can keep to the Basque philosophy and how he will cope with not being able to do 12 transfer deals a week.

Sparta Prague are about to enter their 3rd season in FFO and following Emlyn Brennan’s great FFO auction pickup of 27 year old Italian goalkeeper Di Gregorio Emlyn will be looking for a far better season than last season when they finished 17th.

Emlyn has had a busy pre-season picking up two 20 year olds from the youth auction and purchasing Sparta Prague first academy staff member in the form of a coach.

The Sparta Prague fans have taken Emlyn to their hearts as other than 36 year old Spanish attacking midfielder Canales the squad is of a good age which indicates Emlyn is building the Club from the bottom up and sees Sparta as his Club.

Lyon are entering their 3rd season in FFO and Mike McLoed will be looking to add further improvements in their final league position after finishing 19th in season 3 and 16th last season.

With only one deal completed all close season and that being the sale of veteran striker Lacazette it appears that Mike is very happy with his squad and continues to have belief that they will grow as a unit.

Lyon invested in a scout this close season and it was surprising that was the option rather than spending £5m less to hire their first coach for the extra 5 weeks training.

Lyon fans will be expecting to see their three 20 year olds to break into the first team over the course of the season as Mike will be hoping to challenge towards the top end of the table.

This close season is the most controlled transfer window Mike Bridge has ever had.

It looks like the Stockport County supremo finally has a template and way forward for his beloved Club.

A manager that is known to keep an eye on the going ons in Bermondsey has fully invested in the Clubs infrastructure and is going to utilise his academy with a full staff quota.

With three players 31 years of age or over including Sam Johnstone who protects the goal in a mobility scooter, things are close to taking shape even if Mike’s squad is in last place at 80th in the FFO world.

Rome was not built in a day but the Stockport County fans can finally rest assured that there is finally a plan coming into their 3rd season in FFO and despite the weak squad Mike will be looking to improve upon last seasons 15th place finish.

Guillaume Rousseau has been doing a remarkable job at Huddersfield Town narrowly missing out on the play offs for the last two seasons.

With only three players 31 years of age and older Huddersfield Town have a good aged squad that Guillaume looks to improve in a measured way.

One of four Clubs to have the smallest stadium in FFO and yet to invest in coaches to get additional weeks training for their academy the time might be coming for investment in infrastructure to cover any increases in wages due to wage creep.

It may be the case that Guillaume is tactically waiting for promotion to the promise land before directing any precious resources to those costs though.

There is a real buzz around Carrow Road following Delia Smith securing the Godfather of FFO Jon Banks.

After failing to make Bayern Munich into the powerhouse that was expected Jon decided he needed a new challenge and Norwich City fit that bill.

A massive turn over of players in bonanza has seen Jon totally reshaped the canaries.

Norwich City may well be the youngest first team in FFO with twelve players 20 years of age and one of them being potential superstar picked up from the FFO Auction Joao Neves.

Jon Banks is trying to get a production of stars going with an investment of £45m in the Academy purchasing the Canaries first Coach and Scout.

Norwich City may struggle this season with their squad valued 77th in FFO but they have the building blocks to be a Championship force in the next couple of seasons.

Another Club without a full time manager Andy Banks continues in a caretaker role for the 2nd season in a row.

Andy will be hoping to at least match last seasons play off qualification after finishing 6th but with no investment in increasing the Brentford Community Stadium Capacity there is a fear that Brentford will struggle to accumulate funds as they are already a loss making Club despite being in the DBC Cup.

With the smallest ground and a loss making Club Brentford fans do worry that it will take a while to find a full time manager.

PSV fans are hoping the caretaker appointment of Tim Brown sees an improvement in the Clubs fortunes following 15th and 14th place finishes in the last two seasons.

Following some great deals in the transfer market there has been a shift towards the future and investment in the Stadium plus the purchasing of PSV’s first coach and scout.

There was even the added bonus of picking up 22 year old Brazilian defender Couto from the FFO Auction.

Wherever Tim Brown goes success usually follows and PSV fans are excited by Tim’s appointment until a full time manager is secured.

Ajax fans were very disappointed with last seasons 19th place finish and with a very quiet close season expectations are very low in Amsterdam.

With a very small ground at 35k seats and no investment in the academy Ajax fans are trying to work out what direction manager Haydon Dando is going to take the Club.

The quality of their squad should see them have a better season than last season but whether sticking with the same players will see them challenge at the top of the table only time will tell.

The Stadium of Light is trying to pull itself out of darkness after finishing bottom of the Championship last season.

Derek Pervis appears relatively happy with his squad bringing in one player in the close season in a swap and some cash for one of his ageing players.

With seven players over the age of 31 Sunderland need some major restructuring it what appears a long term project for Derek.

With one of the lowest academy squad value and no investment currently in staffing their academy it will be interesting to see how Derek goes about improving Sunderland’s FFO status.

The lowest Club on the wealth list in the European section will not worry manager Drew Hill.

With two players aged 36 and one of them being the goalkeeper there is a good balance of age and skill throughout the squad.

The negative Bank balance has affected Rennes position with a squad value that sees them ranked 73rd.

With a academy full of potential good players it is a surprise that Rennes did not invest in any staff this close season but the financial troubles probably forced that decision on Drew.

Drew will be looking to improve on last season 10th place finish it what is going to be a very competitive EFL 2 this season outside the giants of Dortmund and Lazio.

The Cherries sit bottom of the wealthiest Club list.

Still looking for a permanent manager they will be looking to improve on the 17th place finish they achieved last season.

They have some hidden gems in their squad but with only two 16 rated strikers the fans are very worried on where the goals are going to come from and attracting a full time manager.
