  • Season 5 Club valuations from starting Squads

Financial Review and Valuation of all 80 FFO League Clubs For Season 5 Starting Position.

The FFO FA sanctioned a Financial Audit of all 80 FFO League Clubs before season 5 kicks off in early January 2025.

With Ticket prices being increased to cover Clubs burgeoning wage bills an independent consultant was engaged to assess the wealth and operating profitability of the FFO League.

    The Accounting Approach

    Balance Sheet

Bank Balance = Per site adjusted for Auction Round 2 purchases and corrections at next data run
Stadium Value = The First 35k is valued at £35m for all Clubs then adjusted for the cost of each 5k upgrade
Squad Value = The Sell Value per rosters adjusted for auction round 2 purchases
Academy Player Value = The Sell Value per site matrix applied to main players for season 5
    Academy Value =
    • Scouts – These have been valued at £45m for tier 1 Clubs and £25m for tier 2 Clubs depreciated by how many picks they have been used for, so scout that has had 2 picks is 3 fifths of base cost and 1 pick 4 fifths of base cost.
    • Coach – These have been valued at 2 thirds for season 3 coach purchases and full cost for season 4 purchases, this is because they have not completed their additional work until end of season.
    • Facilities – valued at the actual cost.
    This = Total Club Assets

    Profit and Loss

This is calculated in the following way.

League Gate Receipts = 19 games multiplied by ground capacity multiplied by £30 per ticket tier 2 and £25 per ticket Tier 2
Champions League Gate Receipts = 6 Group Games @ £2,000,000 per game
DPT League Gate Receipts = 6 Group Games @ £1,500,000 per game
DBC League Gate Receipts = 6 Group Games @ £750,000 per game
    FLT Gate Receipts = 1 game @ £500,000
    Domestic Cup = 1 game @ £2,500,000
The calculations assumes that every Club gets knocked out the Cup Competitions at the first attempt, so is taking the worse case scenario.
Media = Every Club achieves full media income of £25m available from December to April when season 5 finishes.
Wages = This is per each Clubs main page and multiplied by the 4 months of the season that Clubs pay wages.

    Disclaimer
Everything is calculated off current squads for the season start and does not consider any future transfers or skill creep.
There are no hypotheticals and are only based off final squads before the season starts and actual guaranteed gate receipts.
There is an assumption that each Club earns full media for fairness in valuation despite managers having free will on whether they complete media or not.

PSG lead the pack by some margin to the tune of £272,451,000 Club value on the 2nd richest Club.

Due to the Club having everything they also record the highest seasonal financial loss, however with PSG being head and shoulders above the competition they will surely be making a profit with the numerous trophies their fanbase quite rightly expect to win.

Manchester City is the wealthiest Club in England and the 2nd wealthiest in FFO.

Nick Lovell built this beast over many seasons from the depths of League 1. Nick’s ability to build top squads is still evident as despite a few players ageing with six players over 30 years of age of which four of them are 31 or older, Nicks patience and use of the FFO Auction sees Manchester City always remain a top Club with never requiring major surgery.

Nick a master of youth development also finds the funds to invest in the Academy as he sets his sights to remain a Top FFO Club using every possible means to achieve that.

With Manchester City being the forth biggest loss making Club City fans will be demanding a trophy or two this season to try and stop PSG increasing the gap on financial muscle.

Andy Banks does it again, the man who built Real Madrid and dominated the European Leagues for many seasons has replicated this with the Old Lady. Andy is a manager that always succeeds and has proven it yet again but this time he took a new Club from EFL 2 and has made them the third wealthiest Club in FFO.

Juventus have not won many major trophies but it wont be long until they do on a regular basis and with the Club making a Loss Andy, the Board and fanbase will be expecting silverware this season.

Andy is like a dog with a bone when he wants a player and although he is the marmite of FFO no one can deny that Andy is up there with the greatest FFO managers.

One surprise is that a manager known for his love of youth players he has not invested any funds into the Youth Academy and is the wealthiest Club of 41 other Clubs not to do so.

Will this be a smart move only time will tell.

Steve Outten’s Manchester United are the 2nd wealthiest Club in England and the 4th in FFO. The Manchester United fanbase really want to see their hero’s lift a trophy this season and that could be the reason why unusually for Steve he is holding four players in his impressive squad that are 31 years of age and over, with a further two players at 30 years of age.

It would be surprising if the season 5 starting squad ends up being the one that finishes the season at Old Trafford but with quality throughout Old Trafford not many teams are going to look forward to facing the Red Devils.

Steve has also invested heavily in their Academy which should start bearing the odd quality player over the next few seasons.

With the third highest losses Steve will be hoping that at worse the Red Devils go deep into the Champions League and FA Cup.

The fans of defending EFL 1 Champions Real Madrid are full of expectation after securing the managerial services of the very experienced Freddie Kaye.

This is Freddie’s first opportunity of managing one of the games true giants and Real Madrid are just that as the last Billion Pound valued Club.

A Club that loves a young player or two it is of no surprise that Freddie got the Academy investment going at the earliest opportunity purchasing their first coach this season.

Historically managing the underdogs Freddie will no doubt be relishing the opportunity to win trophies this season and being 4th on the loss rankings Real Madrid will certainly need to progress to the later stages of the Cup Competitions.

Simon Marsh has done a remarkable job securing Atletico Madrid as annual qualifiers for the Champions League with top 8 finishes in each of the last four seasons.

Marshy is building a dynasty in the other half of Madrid and his great squad building skills sees his side ranked the 6th Wealthiest Club in FFO.

With only the Keeper losing EOS Rerates due to being 31 years of age Marshy has decided not to currently invest in the Academy and the Wanda Metropolitano is the first of the Wealthiest Clubs to not be at the full maximum of 75,000.

This has impacted the Clubs losses and Atletico Madrid find themselves ranked 6th in the loss making section.

This will not deter Marshy as he will have belief he can push for the title this season as well as the Champions League and Domestic Cup.

Hamza spent money like confetti last close season has he tried to make his mark in the big time. Despite a disappointing season for the Roma fans they still find themselves a giant of the game sitting as the 7th wealthiest Club.

The Roma fans and Board will be expecting silverware this season as being in the DPT and not having the funds to expand their Stadium contributes to them being the 9th ranked loss making team.

Hamza will be doing everything in his power to improve on last season and get Roma back to where they have been for a very long time.

Inter Milan yet again qualified for the Champions League with a 2nd 6th place finish in four seasons. Johnboy appeared very happy with his squad and decided to increase the San Siro by 10k seats to a 70k capacity and pickup 20 year old Columbian striking sensation Duran at the FFO auction.

Inter Milan are yet to invest in coaches as like most of the Big Clubs as they wait to see if the extra 10 weeks training is worth the outlay.

Johnboy will be looking to break into the top 5 this season and at least make it out the Champions League group stage to try and mitigate their losses.

Darren’s Arsenal becomes the first of the wealthiest Clubs to secure a profit even if they get knocked out at the Champions League group stage and FA Cup first attempt.

The biggest Club in London came very close to winning the Premier League last season in one of the most exciting campaigns in FFO history.

Darren has built Arsenal from the ground up and League One and always keeps his sides littered with players 23 years of age or younger. It surprised nobody when Arsenal finally dipped their toe into the Academy staff as he purchased Arsenal’s first coach this season.

With Tottenham the defending Champions and Chelsea hell bent on being London’s biggest Club, Darren will be trying to win a major trophy this season.

Once the biggest Club by far in FFO, Chelsea are now ranked the 10th wealthiest Club. Chelsea were once so huge their prolific trophy winning manager Adam Moursy gave hundreds of millions of the Clubs Bank Balance to every FFO Club.

Trophyless for many seasons Chelsea employed serial Trophy winner Steve Talbot to bring back the good times. In his first season in charge Steve nearly achieved that but fell at the final hurdle losing to the biggest
Club in the world PSG in the Champions League final, as well as reaching the FA Cup semi final Chelsea finished 6th in the Premier League.

Steve Talbot wants to add the Premier League title to his impressive honours list and this close season as bought half his Real Madrid team to West London.

With a third of the team 31 years of age or over and no interest in the Academy route it will be interesting to see if Steve Talbot can get Chelsea back to the force they once were.

Borussia Dortmund’s entry into the FFO wealthiest Clubs at eleventh is a complete shock and demonstrates a Club this size should not be in the 2nd tier of the football pyramid.

Once touted as the next big Club the Borussia Dortmund Board have appointed proud Scotsman Garysean Wilson who wants to emulate the Scottish greats of Matt Busby Bill Shankly and Mark McGhee.

Celtic mad Wilson continues to play down Dortmund’s chances but with a fully loaded Stadium and Academy staff the Dortmund fans and Board will not tolerate promotion back to the big not being achieved this season.

Wilson has all the ingredients to break into the top 5 wealthiest Clubs it will be interesting to see if he bakes a mega cake or crashes and burns.

Jamie Smith has really got the Saints marching and has qualified for the Champions League twice in the last four season.

Jamie’s transfer ability and eye for a great deal has seen the Saints littered with talent and sees them ranked the 12th wealthiest Club in FFO.

Another manager that tries to build a squad mainly made up of players 25 and under it is surprising that there has been no investment in Academy staff, however when you have the determination and guile Jamie has in the transfer market maybe the Academy route is not needed by the Saints.

Jamie will want to establish the Saints as top eight contenders every season and with the resources available to him that is a very realistic objective

Neil Kirby has worked wonders building a squad that managed a 10th place finish in their first season back in EFL 1. A transfer addict Neil drives a hard bargain and this plays out with the 7th highest squad value that propels Fiorentina to the 13th wealthiest Club in FFO.

It looks like Neil is taking the gamble to get Champions League football next season with the 2nd highest loss partly due to a tiny Stadio Artemio Franchi and DPT European football that Fiorentina are one of the favourites to lift the trophy at the end of the season.

With only three players 32 years of age or over that are all defenders Neil is another top manager not to invest in the academy.

It will be interesting to see how Neil navigates such a huge wage bill but with his prowess in the transfer market Fiorentina are in safe hands.

Burnley had a torrid season finishing 17th just above the relegation zone. A club that has qualified for the Champions League for numerous seasons will now be favourites to win the DBC trophy.

Simon Hill will be determined to prove that last season was a blip and ranked the 14th wealthiest Club in FFO and 6th in the Premier League the Turf Moor fans will be optimistic Burnley will grace the Champions League once again in season 6.

Bayern Munich celebrated their highest finish last season with a great 4th place, but this came at the expense of their manager resigning to take over Championship Norwich City.

Within a few days the Bayern Munich Board appointed Ant Harris to the delight of their passionate fanbase. Ant who performed miracles at Barnsley and pulled off the great escape with Bayer Leverkusen that sent another German giant Borussia Dortmund to the 2nd tier has inherited a quality young team that Jon Banks put together.

For the Club the size of Aston Villa Drum will be doing everything in his power to get Champions League football back at Villa Park in season 6.

With a team blessed with talent all through the team and only one player to receive EOS de-rates it may well be the reason why Drum is yet another manager not to invest in the academy.

Drum will be hoping for a trophy this season and will be looking for a good run at the DPT despite there being some very big Clubs and managers having the same aspirations.

A Club with a long and proud history will be looking to improve on last seasons 5th place finish and picking up Harvey Barnes in the auction has added even more quality to the AC Milan squad.

With quite a few players reaching the peak of their careers and no investment in the academy staff structure it would not be a surprise Cheyenne Hollis starts to slowly reduce the age over the next couple of seasons.

With the smallest stadium of this seasons Champions League Clubs Cheyenne will be hoping his experienced squad has a real crack at the EFL and Champions League to accumulate healthy prize money to start investing in the Clubs infrastructure and age reduction that will be required in the next couple of seasons.

Tim Brown’s Spurs pulled off an amazing title win on the last game of the season to break the hearts of a few managers and send the Tottenham fans to dreamland.

Tim will still see the Spurs as a work in progress but taking a Club that finished 14th the season before to League Champions not only shocked FFO but probably Tim as well.

Another manager that has not invested in the academy route and this case its understandable as Tim needs to keep investing in the Tottenham squad.

With only one top striker and 33% of the first team losing abs to re-rates at the end of season, it is expected that Tim will use his ability to pull of a great deal here and there to reshape Spurs over the course of the season and still remain competitive as he will be looking to pull off another shock and retain the Premier League title.

Tony Ayre arrived in Blackburn and delivered their best League finish, just missing out on the Champions League and recorded a 9th place finish.

Tony loves a deal and has made 40 deals during bonanza with many more expected to be done during the season as well.

With seven players 31 and over and currently no investment in the academy route, Blackburn fans can expect lots of transfers from a manager that loves a fair deal and revolving transfer door policy until he shapes the team how he wants.

It looks like Tony is going hell bent on challenging for the title this season and will definitely want to be qualifying for nest seasons Champions League at least. Tony will also have his eye on the DPT trophy along with a few other heavy hitters in this season competition.

The 2nd EFL 2 side in the top 20 ranked wealthiest Clubs and far to big a Club to be in the 2nd tier and FLT Cup.

Lazio are a great aged team full of potential and Ryan is also investing in the academy with two coaches on the books.

Favourites to walk EFL 2 with Borussia Dortmund and to be fighting them for the FLT Cup, Lazio need a great season with trophies at the end of it so they are not forced to sell any of their players to balance the books.

The pickup of 19 year old Belgium defensive midfielder Engels is a major coup for Lazio and adds yet more quality youth to a side with huge potential.

Ryan seems heavily invested in a long term project and Lazio will be a force to be reckoned with in EFL 2 and ready for EFL 1 next season. With two players above the League 23 man mandate, no doubt Lazio will have money in the Bank once the transfer window opens.

Adding Spanish midfielder Merino from the FFO auction has the Rangers fans buzzing and shows Aaron made a prudent decision not to invest in expanding the Stadium or ploughing any money into the academy.

With an ageing backline the Geordie fans were surprised that manager Nathan Prior did not invest in a 2nd coach during the close season to start maximising the chance of bringing players through the academy with 30 weeks training.

Darren Lear had Leicester City flying in their first season in the Premier League finishing a very exceptional 13th place.
Due to the age of the squad the 27th ranked squad value does not reflect the quality of the Foxes especially in defence, but with eight players 31 years and over Darren is going to have to act swiftly to mitigate the butchering some of his players will get at the end of the season.

With no investment in academy staff there may need to be a calculated structured rebuild over the next couple of seasons at the King Power Stadium.

Barnsley are yet to invest in the academy route but that may change once Dan has a season with a very talented squad.

The decision not to invest in the academy could also be driven by the lack of quality with the current crop of youngsters which sees them have the 78th ranked Academy value of the 80 FFO Clubs.

In a very strange set of circumstances upon relegation from the Premier League Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased Sheffield Wednesday and renamed them Wrexham hiring former Benfica manager

Tyler Edwards to take their new franchise into the Premier League for the first time.

Tyler has had a stroke of massive luck as most Clubs that come into the FFO Leagues start with a 35k stadium and £60m as well as the new Clubs players weighted to be a mid to lower ranked Championship team.

Not Wrexham their squad is full of established Premier League players with the 25th ranked Squad value.

This of course comes at a cost and thankfully Wrexham take over Hillsborough which is the smallest Stadium in the wealth list so far at 45k and if knocked out of both cups at the first attempt are set to make a £13m loss which sees them the 8th ranked loss making Club.

The Racecourse Ground expects to see Premier League Football next season and with the quality at Tyler’s disposal including Auction pickup 19 year old attacking midfielder Ben Seghir it would be a tragedy if they did not win promotion this season.

Lens manager Chris Spero is caretaker manager of last seasons relegated Hornets and will be expecting to bounce back to the big time at the first attempt.

The foundations are set for Watford with an impressive 60k stadium and the 6th highest ranked academy squad value in FFO.

With one coach already on the books it was a bit of a surprise that Watford decided to purchase a scout rather than an additional coach to secure the 30 weeks training for an academy that has quite a bit of potential talent within it.

The thinking behind that decision could well be that Chris expects promotion this season and then the scout purchase will be a master stroke as Watford will get 4 more scouted players rather than paying £12m being in the Premier League or £45m for a Premier League scout.

Jason Fortune performed a miracle last season by remaining in the richest League in FFO as well as dramatically reducing the age of the very old squad he inherited.

With only one player 31 years of age and going into the bonanza with very limited resources Jason as acted shrewdly in the transfer market as it appears he will be looking to consolidate this season to try and raise the cash to get his academy production line off the ground.

It could be a tough season for the Lisbon Lions but Jason will feel confident he will keep Sporting Lisbon in the EFL 1.

With Millwall about to enter their 3rd season since being selected to join the FFO league structure it comes as a big surprise that the Club from Bermondsey sit ranked 37th in the wealthiest Club list.

They do sit 52nd in the squad valuation charts and this is mainly driven by the amount of youth players Windebank has at his disposal.

With the oldest first team players both being 25 years of age it looks like after participating in three bonanza’s Windebank has shaped his squad to maximise the massive investment in the Lions academy, where Millwall sit 2nd in the wealth charts along with four other tier two Clubs.

It will be interesting to see if Windebank sticks with the team he has assembled or gets impatient in his dreams to become a Premier League Club.

Bayer Leverkusen go into season 5 still celebrating the great escape they performed last season.

They are looking for a full time manager but the Leverkusen fans are happy that Leeds United supremo Tim Davey is the caretaker until they can secure a full time manager.

With a couple of gems added and Tim being able to retain the services of Washington Bayer will be looking for a more stable season and Tim looking to use a fairly healthy bank balance to the side when players become available.

With one of the lowest academy values and no staff employed as of yet it will be interesting to see how Leverkusen move forward in the medium to long term, however the primary objective will be to ensure their EFL 1 status.

The Italian side have invested heavily in the academy and purchased their first coach this close season to join their full scouting department.

With three 20 year olds in and around the first team and a couple of reasonable prospects in the academy jack will be hoping that his scouting department will be able to locate some future stars to come into the first team in the next few years. With only the keeper and defender both 32 years of age the rest of the squad are still to come into their prime so Jack will not rush promoting young prospects.

Atalanta will be hoping to improve on their 11th place finish last season and will be hoping they can go one better than their 3rd place finish in their first season in FFO season 3.

Chris Spero led Lens to the promise land via the play offs after finishing 4th in only the 2nd season in FFO.

Lens could be in for a tough season and with four of their defensive line being 31 years of age and over including 31 year old keeper and captain Samba it looks like Steve will be relying on the talent in their academy to come through first team players.

With Lens having the 6th highest valued academy squad it is a bit of a surprise that Lens are still to purchase their first coach to assist their academy players up to speed for first team involvement.

Steve will not be too worried though as they were able to pick up 28 year old Norwegian striker Sorloth in the FFO auction.

Being in the richest League in FFO Steve will be hoping there are a few Clubs that perform worse than his team to secure the £25m staying up bonus at the end of the season.

The last of the relegated Clubs David Gooch will be looking to bounce back straight away and get back to the promise land.

With quality across the squad they will be tough to stop but having only one striker could come back to haunt the Toffees over a gruelling season.

Everton are potentially a ticking timebomb with seven of the first team being 31 years of age and over so we could see Daivid using his healthy bank balance to start rebuilding his Club via the transfer market during season 5.

With currently no academy staff on the books and not the most talented youth prospects the David will be relying on his transfer skills to ensure Everton can get back to the promise land and say there.

Another Club in just their 3rd season in FFO and Dave Thacker is building from the foundations up to try and give Salzburg wings.

Dave will be hoping to improve on the 18th place finish he has achieved in his first two seasons but with currently the 74th valued squad this season might be a bit soon for any significant improvement in the League.

The future is where Dave is focused as Salzburg has the 2nd highest academy squad value and after purchasing their first coach this season the 25 weeks training will certainly help kick the academy players on.

The future is certainly bright for Thacker’s charges and in Dave they have a manager that has the patience to achieve the Clubs long term goals and Salzburg is a Club definitely on the up.

Union Berlin enter their 3rd season in FFO and shocked everyone with winning the DBC Cup last season despite a 12th place EFL 2 finish.

Andy Babbs is doing a great job in Berlin and are currently set as the number one profit making Club and fully loaded in academy staff, with their academy squad value ranked 5th in FFO.

The academy has a sprinkling of talent that could well be in the first team soon but with a great aged squad excluding their keeper, Andy can pick and choose when he promotes from his academy.

Andy will be well chuffed with the start his Club has made to FFO and will be hoping to be mixing it with the big boys on a regular basis in the not to distance future.

Evan Singh will be looking to improve on last season 9th place finish this season and will be expecting to break into the top 6 at a bare minimum.

With one of the lowest ranked academies and no investment in academy staff Evan spent the bonanza adding another quality striker Nunez that he hopes will forge a prolific partnership with Abraham.

With no players 31 years of age or older but a few players at the maximum of their prime at 30 Real Betis might start investing in the academy from the end of this season.
