Financial Wellbeing of FFO Football Clubs

With Season Four finally close approaching and fiscal austerity really starting to bite with Clubs having to sell players up to main skills of 22 to the Sell Him Now Market due to the vast majority of Clubs in all division not having the funds to purchase players, we thought it might be a good time to analyse the Financial ticking timebomb of each Club in the four main divisions.
To do this we will look at the League table and factor in the range of places teams can finish with seven games to go.
Current finances on the main website will be used and no adjustments will be made for transfers still to be process and any financial updates that are still to be conducted by the FFO accountant. We will adjust West Ham United’s, Blackburn Rovers and Millwall’s balances for the auction buys and the deal between Blackburn Rovers and Millwall with regard Mason Mount as we have that information at our fingertips.
The following will be discussed and will be assumption based:
    • Current Balance
    • Number of Players teams will lose due to being 31 years of age with zero SHN values and players not likely to meet their minutes.
    • Number of Players that can be promoted from Academy.
    • The effect of the reduction in SHN values for season 5 – Please note that the FFO FA have added values for players with 2nds over 21 and 22 which will mean players like this will increase in SHN Values
    • Potential prize money within the range teams could finish.
    • Objective money will be included but will be the average payout for each league applied to each team.
      • PL/EFL 1 = £300m split over two Leagues = Top Tier Clubs £7.5m Each
      • Tier Two Clubs = £5m Each
    • A % chance of stadium upgrades based on Clubs that invested last season
    • A % chance of Clubs investing in Coach and Scout for their Academies
We will start with the English side of the game and if managers find this useful, I will try and do the European side of the game.

    Liverpool
    Current Balance: £2,810,000
Number Players to be lost due to be over 31 Years of Age with Zero Value: 4 - Potentially 5 as One player could missed minutes
Number of players that can be promoted from Academy: 4
Net Reduction in SHN Value (not including EOS abs): £47,700,000.
    Potential Prize Money:
    • League Finish: 1st to 10th = £30m to £14m
    • FA Cup = £10m to £8m
    • DPT = £15m to £9m
    • Objectives last season = £7.5m
    • Stadium Upgrade 10K last season = £26m to repeat this season
    • Academy Improvements £0 Last season = 90% probable £0 this season

Liverpool is still in all competition so have an opportunity to get maximum payouts and I will assume they win everything in the forecast calculations.
    Current Balance: £2,810,000
    League Gate Receipts: £9,720,000
    DPT Gates: £6,000,000
    DPT Winners: £15,000,000
    FA Cup Gates: £2,500,000
    FA Cup Winners: £10,000,000
    League Winners: £30,000,000
    Objective Money: £7,500,000
    Media: £4,000,000
    Wages: (£20,000,000)
    Stadium Upgrade 10k: (£26,000,000)
    Total Maximum Funds: £41,530,000

Livi Edwards is having a stella season and other than the extra boost to funds of winning the Champions League Liverpool are maximising funds if they win the treble.
If after a monumental season Liverpool starting balance next season is a paltry £39.3m and that includes not investing in the Academy I fear for many Clubs I am analysing.

    Special Note on SHN Values

My rant on finances in my Millwall Club News thread about Marxism fiscal policies never working has been proven in the change to SHN values.
Liverpool lose SHN value £48.1m net but got an increase on Mahrez of £12m. Rashford is only reducing by £2m just 2.4% in value for a 24 19 Rated player.
    Yet Halifa a 17 16 19-year-old loses £3.5m in SHN value a 18% reduction.
I forecast this Marxist economic view has failed repeatedly wherever it has been implemented in the World and FFO Economists are yet again proving that a control Marxist/Socialist agenda makes the elites richer and 90% of the population/Clubs poorer.
Please FFO FA get rid of these financially illiterate Economist they are narcistic individuals that only care about themselves, and the majority suffer due to warped world views.

    More Clubs to follow.

Chelsea is in the Champions League Final and can still mathematically win the League but considering they are 8th and nine points off the top with 15 points to play for the League title looks beyond them this season like for all Clubs I am going to assume they win the Champions League and finish as high as possible in the below forecast calculations.

    Current Balance: £45,770,995
    League Gate Receipts: £10,530,000
    CL Gates: £8,000,000
    CL Winners: £20,000,000
    FA Cup: £5,000,000

    League Winners: £30,000,000
    Objective Money: £7,500,000
    Media: £4,000,000
    Wages: (£22,250,000)
    Stadium Upgrade 10k: (£29,000,000)
    Total Maximum Funds: £79,550,995

Steve Talbot will be banking on winning the Champions League and finishing as up high the table as possible.

If Chelsea finished in their current position the League Prize money will be £16m and but compared to Liverpool the West London Club look in fine Financial shape to take Chelsea forward for a season 5 assault on the Title with a starting balance of £79.5m or worse.

Arsenal are only two points off of League leaders Liverpool with 15 points to play and are in with a great chance of winning the League which Darren will be trying his best to achieve.

      Current Balance: £14,270,000
      League Gate Receipts: £8,755,000
      CL Prize Money: £5,000,000
      League Winners: £30,000,000
      Objective Money: £7,500,000

      Stadium Upgrade 10k: (£29,000,000)
      Total Maximum Funds: £21,075,000

Darren Humphris will have to use his great skills of buying low and selling high as his starting balance will be a lot lower than Arsenal’s historic starting balance if he will want to build on what could be a League Title winning season.

Leeds United are only 3 points off of League leaders Liverpool with 15 points to play and are in with a great chance of winning the League which Tim would love to achieve again with his home town Club.

Tim Davey will start with a very healthy balance and it will be interesting to see if this season he will invest in adding 10k seats to Elland Road at a cost of £22m. With a lot of teams potentially in financial trouble it will be interesting to see if Tim looks to pick up bargains to keep player quality while looking to reduce some of his ageing superstars.

Manchester United can win the Domestic Double I will assume they win both competitions in the forecast calculations.

Steve Outten’s Red Devils still has the opportunity to win the domestic double beating fierce rivals Liverpool to the League Title and FA Cup. Steve is on of the few big Clubs that invested in Academy Structure last season. A manager that has a history in spending big when young superstars land on Auction, I am expecting Manchester United to buy their 2nd Coach and Scout in the close season.

With a squad full of talent and Steve’s ability to get great valued deals for his side I fully expect Manchester United’s rather modest maximum forecast balance to grow quite a lot before Auction season to roll around.

Nick Lovell’s well built machine is having a very poor season compared to previous seasons. Knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League competitions at the Quarter Final stages.

Nick is one of the games masters at evolving youth players and will continue that trend by investing the maximum in their Academy. Even with this investment Manchester City will have a Maximum Forecast Bank Balance of £123m.

Tottenham Hotspurs are still in with a outside chance of winning the League, finding themselves in joint 6th place and 6 points behind the leasers Liverpool. They will be hoping to continue their great League season and at least qualify for the Champions League.

Tim Brown has had a great League season and to still be in the League Title race with 15 points to play for shows the great work he is doing at White Hart Lane. Tim would have been disappointed to exit the FA Cup in the 2nd Round and not to qualify from his DPT Group.

Tim’s reasonable starting balance of £42.8m will not phase him and he has proven he knows how to make a deal with both Spurs and Bristol City. It would not surprise me if Tim increased White Hart Lane by 10k seats rather than the 5k they invested in last season. Whether Tim can raise enough cash or even wants to invest in the Academy Infrastructure is yet to be seen.

Southampton are having a great season and Jamie Smith has put together a great first team and are making a real go at trying to qualify for the Champions League next season.

A 8 point gap to leaders Liverpool appears a step to far but I will assume they pull off a miracle to calculate maximum balance forecast.

                Current Balance: £11,850,000

Jamie Smith could have his work cut out in the close season with 9 squad players needing to be replaced in the close season. The forecast balance of £38.7m is based on winning the League but if Southampton fall short and still produce a massive achievement and maintain 7th place that League prize money would drop to £17m.

With a lot of players needed to rebuild the squad it is unlikely that Southampton will change last seasons decision to not invest in the Academy or increase their Stadium size from 50,000 seats.

Tony Ayre has sprinkled his usual magical dust on Blackburn Rovers, and they have a real chance of qualifying for the Champions League in his first season at the Club. A 11-point gap to leaders Liverpool means they will not catch them this season, but I will calculate maximum balance forecast.

                  Current Balance: £21,605,000
                  League Gate Receipts: £8,910,000

                  Total Maximum Funds: £54,015,000

Tony Ayre is a magician in the transfer market and due to his ability to offer fair deals can work wonders. The forecast balance of £54m is based on winning the League but this is a step to far this season and if he maintain 9th place the League prize money would drop to £15m. Tony will really want to qualify for the Champions League especially as he is one point off the 53 points Blackburn have recorded in the previous 3 seasons in the Premier League.

With Ewood Park only housing 55,000 seats I would not be surprised if Tony extends the capacity so it is likely that Blackburn Rovers will invest in their Academy due to insufficient funds and Tony’s effort to make Blackburn Rovers squad more competitive.

Aston Villa highest possible finishing position is 2nd place with five games to go and he will be looking on improving Aston Villas 9th place finish last season. Drum will be looking to finish as high as possible in the League to maximise end of season prize money. The forecast balance of £33.7m is based on finishing 2nd in the League but that looks very unlikely as they sit 6 points behind 8th place Chelsea. If they maintain 10th place the League prize money would drop to £14m.

With Villa Park currently housing 60,000 seats it will be interesting to see if Drum increases capacity this season with money so tight. I think Villa will continue the trend of not investing in the Academy as Drum diverts limited resources to focus on other areas for the Club.

Newcastle United fans still reeling by the shock resignation of long term boss Chris Banks, will be hoping the Board find the right person to continue Chris’s great work. Currently sitting 11th I will apply the maximum League Prize money of 2nd place.

It will be interesting to see how the new manager when he arrives will take Newcastle United forward. The forecast balance of £22.5m is based on finishing 2nd in the League but that looks very unlikely as they sit 7 points behind 8th place Chelsea. If they maintain 11th place the League prize money would drop to £13m.

Chris Banks invested quite heavily in infrastructure last season but with an ageing defence and potentially quite a low starting balance it will be interesting to see how the new manager will take Newcastle forward. With one coach already on the books in my opinion it would be a wasted opportunity if the new manager did not invest a further £20m in a second coach to get the maximum 30 weeks training.

Ant Harris has Barnsley punching well above their weight once again as he seems to get the best out of limited resources at Oakwell. Although mathematically Barnsley can finish 4th they sit 8 points behind 9th so realistically 10th appears the highest Barnsley will be able to finish. However I will apply the maximum prize money currently possible.

Ant’s Barnsley are having currently sitting quite well in the table and he will be hopeful that Barnsley at least finish in their current position. If Ant achieves that feat Barnsley will receive £12m in prize money, which will see Barnsley’s maximum fund balance reduce to £23m.

The fact Barnsley have equalled last seasons points total with five games still to play deserves to be applauded.

Ant will likely add another 5k seats to Oakwell but is very unlikely to invest in the Academy as he will be looking to improve the playing side of things to try and maximise his teams chances of keep climbing the table.

What a season Leicester are having in their first season in the Premier League. Although mathematically Leicester City can finish 4th they sit 6 points behind 10th so realistically 12th appears the highest Leicester City will be able to finish.

Leicester City will be due a healthy £25m bonus for staying up in their first season in the Premier League.

                          Total Maximum Funds: £48,370,000

With the 4th place finish realistically out of Leicester City’s grasp the £48m forecast funds will likely be reduced. If they are able to maintain their current position they will receive $11m in prize money, which will see Leicester City’s maximum fund balance reduce to £36m.

With four first team players receiving the dreaded OAP rerate reductions at the end of season it will be interesting to see what manager Darren Lear will do.

The Kingpower Stadium can only host 50k people so Darren might decide to increase capacity by 5k seats at a cost of £8m but it would be very surprising if Leicester City invested in their Academy.

Cardiff City are another promoted team punching well above their weight in a so far remarkable season. Mathematically they can still finish 7th but are 7 points behind 11th place Newcastle. The world of FFO would be surprised if Cardiff City finished higher than their current position of 14th for they would receive prize money of £10m.

However I will apply the maximum prize money currently possible.

Cardiff City could be relatively quids in following a remarkable season, not only do they look like they have achieved remaining in the Premier League they also reached the DBC semi final. If they are able to maintain their current position they will receive £10m in prize money, which will see Cardiff City’s maximum fund balance reduce to £45m.

Cardiff City squad age is quite well placed so Matt Rose may decide to increase their tiny 40k stadium. Whether he has the budget to start investing in their Academy is another matter and Matt may well look for bargains as other teams look to balance their books.

Although Crystal Palace can get a maximum finish of 8th place they sit 15 points behind Chelsea. A more realistic finish will be between 13th and 15th place with the prize money ranging between £11m and £9m.

Crystal Palace will have a reasonable war chest for the close season although it is highly likely they will receive between £11 or £9m rather than the maximum £16m for their final League position. That will still see them have just over £40m and will be interesting to see if Lee Clark will divert some money to increase the stadium capacity from its current 50k seats.

With the Crystal Palace squad starting to age a bit Lee Clark will probably use his reasonable balance to pick up bargains rather than invest in the Academy.
