12 Rounds Left, Who is Going Up in EFL2?
The story of a season. Twenty-six chapters written, twelve chapters to finish. As I look around the table, this how its all going to unfold.
The Table: The Contenders, The Pretenders, and the Doomed.
The Contenders: The top 5 are only 9 points apart. Sevilla, Fiorenta, Valiencia, Atalanta, and Feyonoord. A burst of winning here could push any one of these clubs to the top if Sevilla falters.
The Pretenders: Looking up in envy is the middle of the pack. The lead of this pack is Eintracht-Frankfurt. Still in playoff contention. A dozen of clubs in the middle are pressed against the sweet shop, but it’s unlikely they’ll be able to snatch a morsel. A mere seven points separate this bunch, making each point important to grab better EOS money. Along with Frankfurt, Betis, Villareal, Berlin, Sparta Prague, Shaktar_Donesk, FC_Porto, Lens, Benifica, Rennes, PSB, and Salzburg have some real financial reasons to do well. Show me the money!
The Doomed: Lyon, Ajax, and Schalke have had a tough season and the points show the tale. Time to get minutes to the squaddies and formulate a strategy for next season. This group is four points below the The Pretenders. Lyon is in a special place in hell, with strongest schedule for the last twelve rounds.
The remaining schedule: How Hard Could it really be?
The Gods of Scheduling have cursed and blessed clubs for the last twelve rounds. Here's the strength of schedule basek on the Win/Draw/Loss for the remaining rounds:
Group 1: This is going to be painful. (most opponents are in the top half)
Lyon, Sparta-Prague
Group 2: Well, it could be worse (opponents evenly split between top and bottom)
Real Betis, Villareal, Union Berlin, Rennes, RBS_Salzburg, Fiorenta, Ajax, Schalke
Group 3: We Will Feast on the Spoils of War! (most opponents on the bottom half)
Atalanta, Feyonoord, Shaktar Donatz, FC Porto, Lens, Benefica, PSV, Valencia
The fact that some of The Contenders have weakest remaining schedule could make for a very interesting few weeks.
And Now......The Forecast!!
In the end, Sevilla's lead will be too much for the rest of the field. Valencia will take care of a slightly weaker schedule and push in the second place. Shaktar Donask, is going to push up into the top half. Nothing of the rest of of the table will be able to change their spots, and remain in their same place. Of course the Gods of Football are fickle. Numbers on a spreadsheet don’t always ring true. We’ll know for sure in 12 rounds. It’s going to be epic!
