After a brutal demolition of Luton Town in the league, Stockport County take the bragging rights for being the ‘Real’ Hatters.
Mike Bridge looked slightly happy for once with a very one sided performance, but this didn’t last long as he knew his side have been consistently inconsistent this season. Having made numerous moves on the transfer market County should be pushing the top two. Even by his own words it’s taken too long to get where they should be and knowing how this season has gone on a tough game against Fulham it could bring them back down to earth with a crash.
To help with consistency, Mike Bridge pushed a few more players out of the door. In recent weeks County’s star man Jack Grealish has been moved on. Bridge had this to say about Grealish “He was suppose to be our ticket to the premier league, he rarely tried though! When he did he was a different class but a guy on his kind of wages meant we had to cut ties with him. With him moving to Blackburn Rovers it frees up money and wages to bring in Italian international Nicolo Barella. A class attacking midfielder not even in his prime. Not only Barella we have been able to Negotiate bringing in a top class striker in Ante Rebic. These guys will certainly help us with our push for promotion! We need to put a shift in from now until the end of the season!”
We asked the gaffer about the rumours circulating about a spot auction coming up. He wouldn’t go on record but he wasn’t sure County would get involved. He went into detail about how there isn’t much money at the club and moving players on to find a go at the auction could cause instability in the team. Added to that he could only see 6 or so teams that could afford the players he’d want to move on. So, building up a transfer Kitty was nigh on impossible. He will put out some tentative enquiries, but he is happy with the squad and feels it’s strong enough to get the what the board want and get premier league football next season. County definitely need that promotion with the players they have as they’ll need the prize money to continue to build and push to catch the big boys.
Next on the agenda he spoke about the direction the club will be going in the future. He confirmed that County will be focusing on the youth players and building and expanding the stadium. The youth team have some really big talents and although not for right now they will be stars for the club, definitely. The work on the stadium will be at the end of the season to make sure the expansion is ready for the next season and will more than match the club’s ambitions going forward.
