Shock news today had Gary Wilson announce to the ffo community that he is contemplating his future in the game, with one other manager stating “if he is going to quit, he might as well do it now to give Inter some chance of champions league qualification.”
However, the Evening Clacker has focussed not on Gary leaving Inter but on Jason being the cause for this. We caught up with the AC Milan manager to find out his take on it.
Reporter: “Jason, Jason, is it true that Gary Wilson is leaving Inter due to AC Milan being above them in the league?”
Hopton: “Look, it was news to me today. Me and Gary haven’t spoken privately since our bet that he lost and never paid up for. Maybe that has been the trigger for this shock announcement, or maybe there is something else behind it. He is no doubt a good manager and we have seen him progress Inter from 4th to 5th to 6th and currently 9th, so in my book he has done a great job.”
Reporter: “you do know that in football you want to finish as high as possible, which means you want to get 1st?”
Hopton: “oh, that’s where I’ve been going wrong all these years, I was always taught that bigger is better. In that case I’m amazed he has stayed at inter as long as he has, the board must have the patience of a saint to not have sacked him for concerning regression season upon season.”
Reporter: “He has recently claimed that you are an embarrassment to the league and have consistently made mistakes, how do you feel about this?”
Hopton: “No wonder he is leaving then, if I’m an embarrassment to the league and I’m 9 points above him in the league then what on earth is he? Some washed up manager living on some claim of once winning a trophy in 2010.
Whilst I may not have won a trophy, I have consistently seen my teams over achieve based on the quality of the squads at my disposal and so far this season I am doing the same. Last season I took Leverkusen to 10th, they now sit 16th. I must have been doing something right.”
Reporter: “many thanks for agreeing to meet with us today, something that very few managers agree to do in this day and age. How do you feel about Gary Wilson’s claim that you only speak to us when you are winning?”
Hopton: “He does have a point, I’ve gone quiet of late, but it’s an echo chamber around here, no one else is talking, so why should I?
What I do find funny is Gary talking about me, when I had nothing to do with the event, take the latest transfer saga where I seemed to feature heavily despite not being involved in the deal. So my question for you, is why? I’m flattered that he has some school boy crush on me but he needs to focus on team management and stop deflecting with some nonsense bravado.”
Reporter: “I think you’ve brought a lot of this on yourself and when you are at the top, you are there to be shot at. It’s likely envy rather than a crush, but what’s the difference really. Thanks for speaking with us and we will catch up soon, maybe have a coffee or something?”
Hopton: “whoa, now you are hitting on me. You and Gary need to get it into your heads, neither of you are my type, but if Gary does leave his job he can become a fluffer for Inter, it’s the right level for his competence.”
