In the close season Atletico Madrid signed Milan Skriniar from Ac Milan with Alessio Romagnoli going the other way. The move was seen as Atletico getting an upgrade with Milan compensated in other areas of the side. At the time of the move Skriniar was 22-rated tackling skills with Romagnoli 21-rated.

Romagnoli has since progressed to a 22-rated defender and is quickly making the expenditure that Atletico lavished on Skriniar look like a Del boy market trader mistake. In every department Romagnoli has outperformed Skriniar barring a couple of key passes.
The bigger question that will be asked by not only the Atletico Madrid board but also the dark arts combo is whether this is down to the coaching ability of one Jason Hopton. Some media exchanges noted across the league have suggested that Ac Milans start is purely down to goalkeeping skills. This in fact is not true. Milan are preventing and then making their opponents miss the goal and ultimately that comes down to good defending also. Milan have conceded just 114 attempts to their opposition this season in the league beaten only by Roma's 106. Jason Hopton appears to have instilled a never say die attitude amongst his side and Romagnoli is appearing to enjoy his time working under an elite coach.
