Started the second half of the season in the same manner as we did the first half by beating Leeds. Delighted that Martinez finally got off the mark in his third game, and then Renan Lodi took centre stage in what could have been his last game for the club had the Tomiyasu bid been successful. Two goals and an increase in his shooting stat so we’re happy to keep him!
The obvious blot on the copybook was the late red for Anton which means he will miss three out of four games for us after being suspended for City on Friday. It’s a tough trip to Blackburn and our DPT QF first leg he’ll miss, so hoping the others can step up.
Unlucky today Tim, best of luck for the rest of the season.
Sometimes lucks not with you and it feels a bit like it at the moment. We played missing 2 players in the last game domestically, and missed 3 today (same as last season against City), both against the two teams chasing for the title.
We gave it a go and to sum it up an own goal 10 minutes in settled the tie. The game was pretty dire by standard, little action but the main thing is we're now 6 behind the league leaders.
We'll keep going, we know we have the ability but we need more fortune going forward, others seem to get it at the minute where we obviously don't.
No real shocks in this one, we knew we'd be facing a counter attacking style and having got in front we probably have to question our in game management again when we persisted with passing and Wolves deservedly got an equaliser.
We missed Mudryk in this one but played two attacking midfielders up top to try and maintain a decent goal threat but it didn't really work as we didn't create a great deal. Even a late change to attacking with a couple of young attackers subbed on made no difference.
We have a big week ahead of us. 2 winnable looking league games with a Champions League quarter final trip to Atletico Madrid in between them.
The Gunners will no doubt look back at this season once the curtain closes and reflect on this period of results which has seen them only manage one win in eight with the other seven ending in draws. In plenty of the games though they only have themselves to blame for being under par in their performance but today will be one of the most frustrating results the club has seen for some time. Despite dominating the game from start to finish, they had to come from behind yet again to earn a share of the points thanks to a goal from Timo Werner which proved to be his last for the club.
The Arsenal boss spoke after the game ;
" Its no secret its a very frustrating period for the club both on and off the field and right now we have no idea how the future holds for my stay at the club but we keep pushing on trying to turn this run around which right now looks unlikely. We couldn't have done anymore today and looking at the stats, how on earth did that game end a draw. Credit to them though but we should be doing better and for reasons we don't know, we aren't ".
