Much more like it but still not happy to concede. This has to be the performance requirement for every game if we are to retain our league title.
Happy to see Mbappe get on the scoresheet and open his Madrid account, hopefully much more to come from him.
Next up a tricky game away to Monaco.
A hugely disappointing result for Atletico. The performance was average but an 8-9 shot count should have been enough to gain a minimum point. It loos worse with Marseille scoring twice with only three shots on target despite Martinez being suped up to 26 rated. After Atletico struggled for goals in the first game this trend continued tonight and there is 0 goals from 20 shots of Muani, Havertz and Osimhen.
Manager Simon Marsh commented "We got the early tactical advantage and I was immediately very confident of our chances. Often in football first goals are the most important and when we fell behind very early we then lost the tactical advantage and that evened the two teams up. I have to say though that we were playing against a young inexperienced side who were reduced to 10-men and so very disappointed we didnt control the game better and create more chances. As for the goalkeeping we sick of saying the same old. It does not appear to matter who is in goal for us and how good they are. Too many shots just find their way in".
Atletico will face Barcelona in the Round 3 league games.
Poor showing for Lens. Burrows gave us a proper welcome to EFL 1. Lost our captain and #1 keeper early on which quickly led to a defensive mistake. Managed to hold Rangers to only shots which they scored on. This was because rangers were able to sit back and just suck the air out of the ball.
a great result against a top manager. Tim knows what he is doing and will put up a huge fight to keep his Leverkusen side up. We can take alot from the game, the stats suggest 5-0 was a very unfair score line on our opponents but we won't complain about that. We need to address the yellow card situation and fast before we start losing players to suspension.
Harris' debut at home for his new side, the fans packed out the stadium to take on Sporting Lisbon who are quietly going about their business, having defeated the world's best team, PSG in round one, Munich knew they were in for a tough game. Xavi Simons scored the opener by crossing to himself and finishing it delightfully with a diving header. You had to be there to see it! It was 1-0 at half time, and we continued edging the stats but unfortunately couldn't get a second. However, we settle for 1-0 and a great three points.
Managing minute expectations across our backline and back up youth forward will be huge challenges this season so knowing when to use these players will become crucial.
Fiorentina went into the second game of the season buoyed by a high scoring first game, but knew it would be a whole different ball game against Monaco, who have some quality across the pitch, and were more likely to play cautiously. Fiorentina stuck with the same side and formation, though were tempted to go with a European style against the likely counter.
What occurred was a slightly disappointing result based on the stats, but with coming back from 2-1 down in the second half it could also have been worse.
The shot count was 19-6 in the home side's favour, and it was disappointing to let two goals in from four on target.
Berardi started the game perfectly with an early goal, but Monaco came back to equalise. The home side made some tactical changes which gave the opposition the advantage, and Monaco went ahead early in the second half. Fortunately Estupinan stepped up with the first goal for the club to get the important point.
There are tough games ahead, and some personnel changes to come in the next week or two, but to leave the first week with 4 points is a decent outcome.
We hosted fallen giants Roma, who were the shadow of them former selves under the stewardship of Hamza Siddiq. Surprisingly we were gifted Tactical advantage by our visitors, so a convincing win was expected when we saw the lineups. However, as is usually the case, the ESMS gods had other ideas, with the Italians going in front aas early as the 4th minute. EBH pulled us back level, but Roam were in front again shortly before the half hour mark, exceeding their xG for the game with less than a third gone. 3 goals without reply put us comfortably in front on 72 minutes. We well on top and with a superior keeper and far better forward, the victory should have been a formality. However, as previously stated, the ESMS gods, not for the first time this season, had other ideas, gifting the visitors 2 late goals and a totally underserved draw.
I have said on numerous times i would prefer a 4-4 draw than a 1-0 with 10 shots,so i got what i wanted. I am happy with the abs haul, and for Fati to hit 24. The plan is for him to be captain for the 2nd half of the season, giving us a front line of 25-25-25, and at 35 abs a game, this should be easily achievable.
Sevilla 0 – Inter Milan 1
After a disappointing start to the season with Inter losing at home to Bayern Munich, Inter travelled to Sevilla – a team who have always caused problems for us.
Inter named an unnamed squad for the trip to Sevilla with close season signing Jhon Duran again starting on the bench.
Sevilla started the brighter of the two teams, but in the 16th minuteInter broke free and defender Joshua Kimmich fired past Szczesny in the Sevilla goal to put his team into the lead.
The two teams traded punches across the rest of the match, with both goalkeepers equal to the attempts that the opposing forwards managed. Duran and Abada came on in the second half for Inter but neither troubled the scorers, Duran still looking for his first goal in an Inter shirt.
Perfectly mid table after 2 matches with Spanish giants either side of us, free-scoring Fiorentina await us next time out.
Good game Alfredo, good luck for the rest of the season
