Red Bull Salzburg had started out poorly during today’s Round 3 match with Brugge. The RBS offensive was sputtering and the Balbuena was being outwitted by Audoor. Koita tried to get things going but was mugged by Vanaken, Pavlovic and Nene both had shots that forced Mignolet to make acrobatic saves, but nothing was getting in the net. In the 33rd minute, Brugge made the first strike when Audoor grabbed a loose ball in Salzburg zone, crossed it, and then rushed in to make the header for a goal. The body language of the Red Bulls did not look good and the crowd got very quiet
After halftime break, it appears manager Dave Thacker had re-motivated Salzburg, especially Maina. After Balbuena collected a yellow at minute 63, things really got moving. Maina, Solet, Pavlovic all took a shot but at the 76th minute Solet and fed Maina the ball and Maina put a screamer into the far post for the equalizer. With the sands running out of the hourglass Maina again had to ball under control, make a move that froze Meier and fired it home. Brugge had no answer in the 3 minutes left and Red Bull Salzburg was heading to round 4.

Manager Dave Thacker was smiling as a small ray of sunshine came down on Salzburg’s season. “This is the kind of game we will need to have to get out of the cellar, and Maina deserves all the credit. He put Salzburg on his back and willed the team back.” Loaned defender Balbuena. had a private word with Thacker, as this was his worst outing since joining the team. Balbuena had no comment after the game.
