Wolfsburg 5-2 Shakhtar

Not bad, saving one of our best performances for the season seeing us leapfrog Steve’s Shakhtar in the league.

Up to second and only 3 points behind leaders Benfica.

The game started pretty evenly with both teams playing P, but first blood caused by high scoring defender N_Kounkou, freshly back from his suspension.

He then netted a second, before a freak own goal that put us comfortably 3 goals up. A change of tactics saw us counter Shakhtar and everything looked rosy, but further changes in the second half gave Shakhtar a way back into the game and score to make it 3-1, not great. However, the further the game went on, the less likely it seemed that Shakhtar could claw it back. Knauff made it 5-1 in the 81st and killed any chance of a recovery despite Gyokeres trying his best.

Wolfsburg 5-2 SHAKHTAR DONETSK

We can only put it down to one of those games, the score line doesn't reflect the flow of the game. But the big thing we've said all season is managing to take chances and that's basically what Wolfsburg did. They have the leagues best striker in their squad and surprisingly we kept him quiet, just not the other players. We slip out the top 2 at the expense of Wolfsburg but we'll keep fighting to ensure the season is as good as possible. We are content with our game for the most part today but the reality again stands, we need improvements in both boxes if we are to have a better chance of anything this season.
