SHAKHTAR DONETSK 1-3 Valencia

I thought Valencia would start as they did and felt if we went for the tactical advantage we had a chance but that got scuppered quite early with Valencia scoring in the first 4 minutes. OK, we thought again, we have a chance with their main goalkeeper going off injured, no that didn't help either as they then went 2 up. We brought it back to 2-1 before half time and despite our best efforts, throwing everything at the game as minutes went on, we couldn't get a leveller and to rub salt in the wound a late Valencia 3rd got added.

I think we can be happy with the fight, we know Valencia have that little bit more in some key areas and I think that was the difference over 90 minutes. But for us not to bag more goals from the chances we had against a back-up goalkeeper is very infuriating. We maybe didn't deserve a win, just out of touch to bemoan a draw, but it's evident the level of squad we currently have will mean this is going to be a long old season. But we'll keep plugging away and enjoy the ride.

Atalanta 1-2 Stade Rennais

Another away game where we have come away with a victory which will leave the opposition manager scratching his head.
The win was thanks to great performances from young defensive duo Adrien Truffert and Filippo Mane, not just as goalscorers but contributing with key tackles and passes as well.
Atalanta pulled a goal back and put us under pressure afterwards but we managed to hold on.
