FC Porto 0-3 SHAKHTAR DONETSK

Massive result for us, we're in the hat for Round 2 which was for us the most important thing. I thought we started bright enough and unfortunately missed a penalty in the opening exchanges, then it went a bit back and forth before Baro scored to settle the tie down for us. We sat back a bit and Porto threw the shop at us and we didn;t get out, we tried to counter from then but ultimately we didn't let us breathe. We sat deeper as the game went on and it felt like any minute Porto would get a breakthrough, but we found Sideshow Bob David Luiz up the pitch smashing in from 20 yards. That killed the game really but we got Gyokeres off the mark finally with him wrapping the tie, the only blemish was the late sending off but gives us an excuse to play someone who will need minutes.

Over the game we knew we'd suffer and struggle at times, maybe not as much as we did, Porto have some dangerous players still (even my loan boy De Guzman). We lost the shot count but I thought we stayed very much in the tie with us displaying quality when needed.

Bring on Round 3, great day for us.

Union Berlin 3-2 Rennes

Of course there is always disappointment when you battle back from a 2 goal deficit only to concede again and lose the game.
Overall, Union played a good game and we were a little too predictable and paid the price.
Our cup journey ends earlier than we would like but this is not a result we can complain about.

Atalanta 0 - 1 Bournemouth

The league form has fallen off the cliff but the magic of the cup is still alive for little Bournemouth who won against a much better side. Atalanta were possibly unmanaged playing 4-4-2 defend and therefore this was a cagey tight affair but one won by G_Reyna (57).

These cup victories are so important for Bournemouth. Extra gate money but also extra playing time.

Harry Maguire re-rated up to a 22-16-12 player and is now immediately for sale by the club looking to boost either its cash balance or youth prospects.
